Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Quality Control Engineer for the Integrated Project Quality (IPQ) program within AWS Data Services. You will oversee QAQC throughout data center construction, ensuring compliance with AWS standards and coordinating with cross-functional teams to drive quality improvements.

The role requires extensive field inspections, documentation, and stakeholder collaboration, with travel up to 75% across North and South America.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in quality control, construction management, or related field.
  • Experience in data center or critical infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, mechanical and electrical systems, and quality control methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills; ability to build stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead QAQC processes across data center construction projects from pre-design to turnover.
  • Review design docs for constructability, maintainability, and QA measures.
  • Develop and maintain quality control plans and inspection checklists.
  • Conduct onsite QAQC inspections ensuring compliance with AWS standards.
  • Coordinate with third-party QA agents and vendors for QAQC.
  • Facilitate regular QC meetings with stakeholders to address issues.
  • Monitor and report quality metrics and KPIs throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and track defects, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Compile and deliver quality turnover packages for each phase.
  • Conduct final quality reviews and handover readiness checks.
  • Share QAQC lessons learned with end customers.

The Quality Control Engineer (QCE) plays an essential role in AWS Data Center Capacity Delivery’s (DCCD) Integrated Project Quality (IPQ) program. This position is responsible for overseeing and executing quality assurance and control processes throughout the lifecycle of data center construction projects, ensuring all work meets AWS’s high standards for quality, safety, and performance.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation of QAQC processes throughout data center construction projects, from pre-design to turnover phases and beyond.
  • Review design documents and provide feedback on constructability, maintainability, and quality assurance measures.
  • Develop and maintain quality control plans, factory/field inspection checklists, and relevant documentation.
  • Conduct onsite QAQC inspections for installation activities, ensuring compliance with AWS standards and specifications.
  • Coordinate with third-party Quality Control Agents/Vendors (QCA) to ensure comprehensive QAQC.
  • Facilitate regular QC meetings with stakeholders to review and address quality-related issues.
  • Monitor and report on quality metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify, document, and track quality defects or non-conformances, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Compile and deliver comprehensive quality control turnover packages for each project phase.
  • Conduct final quality reviews and walkthroughs with key stakeholders prior to project handover.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer to end customers on QAQC processes and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing quality data and proposing process enhancements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Construction Management, Commissioning, and Data Center Engineering Operations to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Stay current with industry best practices and AWS-specific quality standards, incorporating them into quality control processes.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time to various OSA and project sites across North and South America.
Basic Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in quality control, construction management, or related field, preferably in data center or critical infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, mechanical and electrical systems, and quality control methodologies.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to construction quality control.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities; experience building strategic relationships with stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a data center or other critical environment.
  • Knowledge of AWS or the cloud computing industry.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification.
Benefits

The base salary range for this position is 116800.00 - 160000.00 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
