Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Quality Control Chemist I for our Carlsbad, CA site in the Infectious Disease Diagnostics division. You will support raw materials, in-process materials, and finish product release with analytical testing in a GMP environment.

The role emphasizes conducting investigations, method development and transfer, and maintaining documentation while mentoring junior staff and ensuring safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years’ related work experience with a good understanding of the specified functional area.
  • Master’s degree a plus.
  • 2–5 years of related work experience with a good understanding of specified functional area.
  • Working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices and procedures.
  • GMP environment knowledge is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine analysis using approved test methods in a timely manner.
  • Prioritizes workload to meet customer needs.
  • Maintains training status and supports training activities for lab personnel.
  • Follows GMP requirements for lab operation, testing, results, and documentation.
  • Carries out change controls and provides justifications.
  • Identifies OOS/OOT and initiates investigations.
  • Conducts method development, validation, verification, and transfer as required.
  • Prepares technical protocols and reports under supervision.
  • Maintains a safe laboratory environment.
