Job description

POSITION TITLE: Quality Control Chemist

REPORTS TO: Quality Lead

Luxfer Magtech specializes in developing, manufacturing, and supplying a broad range of products that safeguard and protect, including flameless ration heaters for the U.S. Military, chemical response kits for detecting and decontaminating chemical warfare agents, and nutritious hot food and beverage options for militaries and first responders.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary function of this position is to blend, batch, and validate various solutions and chemical intermediates used in the manufacturing process, supporting all product categories. Responsibilities include performing quantitative tests, chemical titrations, product conformance checks, and all applicable end-item testing. This role has primary responsibility for safety and environmental compliance in their work areas and manages the Hazardous Waste area. Additionally, the position involves performing inspection activities such as incoming inspection of raw materials and other quality inspections as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Identify daily production requirements and prepare necessary chemical solutions/intermediates.
  • Oversee inspection activities and perform incoming materials inspections for quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Generate non-conforming material reports for review and disposition of nonconforming materials.
  • Perform environmental inspections related to chemical waste storage and disposal.
  • Maintain records of solutions/intermediates for lot traceability and waste management.
  • Conduct chemical inventories and cycle counts to ensure proper chemical levels.
  • Support QC by performing additional product conformance and end-item tests as needed.
  • Maintain equipment calibration schedules.
  • Assist in defining and implementing process controls to reduce process variability.
  • Establish procedures and create lessons on chemical mixing processes.
  • Conduct internal audits of production and quality management systems.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associates degree required; preferred disciplines include Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • 1-3 years of quality control experience in an industrial environment preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience with mixing chemicals in a manufacturing setting, especially with hazardous chemicals, preferred.
  • Experience with quantitative chemistry techniques such as GC and titration preferred.
  • Adherence to health and safety regulations, including the use of protective gear.
  • Key attributes include strong teamwork and communication skills, ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks efficiently, and proficient time management.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk most of the day, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Visual and physical dexterity requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision, and the ability to focus and manipulate objects.
