Job description

Quality & Compliance Manager

Department: Quality & Compliance
Reports to: VP - Operations
Hours Available: M-F 8:30 am-5:30 pm EST (1-hour lunch break)
FLSA Class: Exempt
Physical Address: 1953 Langston Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730
Salary Range: $78,280 - $131,840 (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law.)

At BEDGEAR®, we believe quality and compliance are essential to delivering products our customers and partners can trust. We’re looking for a Quality & Compliance Manager who will own, modernize, and scale BEDGEAR’s Quality and Compliance function. This role will also oversee regulatory compliance and establish scalable, sustainable processes to support the company’s go-to-market system.

This position is accountable for quality across three critical areas: what BEDGEAR buys through its supplier network, what BEDGEAR makes through internal manufacturing, and what BEDGEAR must prove through product, industry, and customer compliance and regulatory readiness.

What You'll Do

As our Quality & Compliance Manager, you'll be responsible for owning and advancing quality and compliance across BEDGEAR’s supplier network, internal manufacturing, product compliance, regulatory readiness, and customer quality processes.

Essential Functions (including but not limited to):
Quality Management System Audit & Modernization
  • Audit and gap-assess the existing quality management system against the needs of a scaling, multi-site, vertically integrating operation.
  • Rebuild quality documentation into a controlled system: defined ownership, version control, approval workflows, audit-ready records.
  • Deliver a phased modernization roadmap integrated with NetSuite and BEDGEAR’s project management and BI platforms, with foundational process discipline preceding automation.
Supplier & Inbound Quality
  • Design and own a stage-gated vendor onboarding protocol covering product/technical qualification, nominated compliance certifications (OEKO-TEX 100, GREENGUARD, CertiPUR-US, FSC), social compliance audits (SMETA/BSCI or equivalent), and quality documentation as a condition of purchase.
  • Accountability to the vendor management program: scorecards, certification renewal tracking, and supplier corrective action (SCAR/CAPA) with defined response timelines.
  • Manage third-party inspection partners at supplier locations, including inspection criteria, AQL standards, and escalation protocols.
  • Standardize incoming inspection for raw materials, finished goods, and POP fixtures across all distribution centers.
Internal Manufacturing & Facility Quality
  • Build process quality for internal manufacturing: in-process controls, quality checkpoints, and operator-level standards designed for multi-shift scale.
  • Own first-article inspection and production-readiness quality sign-off for new and internally manufactured products.
  • Direct the internal testing lab build-out: equipment selection, test methods, calibration and maintenance.
  • Develop and audit SOPs for manufacturing, distribution, and plant operations.
Product Compliance & Regulatory
  • Own product regulatory conformance: federal flammability (16 CFR 1632/1633), chemical and labeling requirements (Prop 65, law labels, state bedding licenses), and nominated compliance certifications.
  • Administer third-party and internal compliance testing per the Quality and Compliance Guide and retail partner programs; maintain audit-ready records.
  • Support international expansion by operating destination-market requirements (e.g., UK/EU standards).
  • Coordinate compliance workstreams across internal owners, testing labs, certification bodies, and outside counsel.
Quality Data & Customer Quality
  • Establish formal CAPA and root-cause discipline for internal, supplier, and customer-reported issues.
  • Own the customer quality case process: triage standards, 24-hour resolution SLA, and root-cause categorization.
  • Define and report quality KPIs — defect rates, returns by SKU and vendor, inspection pass rates, cost of quality — integrated into quality management system reporting.
Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Product Development: sampling, performance standards, test protocols, and design-for-quality input; quality sign-off at first article.
  • Merchandising: substantiate performance claims with test data; ensure packaging, labeling, and on-product claims meet regulatory and certification requirements.
  • Production & Distribution: embed quality checkpoints in production and fulfillment; define packaging and handling standards to reduce transit damage.
  • Manufacturing: process capability, equipment qualification, and operator quality training as internal production scales.
  • Customer Success: translate case, return, and warranty data into root-cause findings and corrective actions feeding sourcing, product development, and manufacturing.
  • Sourcing: serve as the quality gate in vendor selection; provide quality and compliance performance data for sourcing decisions.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Build and lead the quality team as the function scales, including site quality technicians and third-party inspection resources.
  • Train operations, distribution, and supplier-facing teams on quality standards, inspection methods, and compliance requirements.
