Job Title: Production Operator - Industrial Sewing Operator

Department: Manufacturing

Reports to: Production Manager

Hours Available: Monday – Thursday, 6:00am-4:30pm (30-minute lunch break)

FLSA Class: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Salary Range: $16.00 - $22.75 per hour (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law)

Summary

Production Operators perform essential functions in pillow and/or mattress assembly, ensuring safe, professional, and efficient production while adhering to established processes and procedures. Employees may be cross‑trained across multiple functions and must maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of all current products and materials.

Essential Functions
  • Beater/Bagger – Smooths out fill within pillows, inserts a half core and zips pillow closed, and ensures quality standards before packaging. Requires constant standing and upper body movements.
  • Retail Box Maker/Closer – Cleans and erects retail cartons, keeps the conveyor full of empty cartons, and packs products into master cartons. Must lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Master Carton Maker/Stacker – Verifies shipping labels, erects and tapes master cartons, stacks them, and moves them into a separate location using a hand truck. Requires constant bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Pillow Line Prep – Prepares shells, active cores, and pillow bags, performs pillow compliance, stamping, and quality checks. Requires constant standing and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Sewer – Uses a single‑needle industrial machine to stitch closed pillows, maintaining speed, accuracy, and quality.
  • Machine Operator – Safely operates pillow and/or mattress machines and performs daily preventive maintenance. Must lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Mattress Assembler – Orients foam, joins components with adhesive, applies FR socks, sews shut, applies mattress cover, feeds finished mattress into compress/roll machine, removes rolled mattress, boxes, and pallets.
  • Utility – Performs general housekeeping and organization, manages mobile trash dumpsters, maintains bearings on roller buggies, recycles materials, communicates trash conditions, and learns to use a bailer for corrugated material.

Additional duties and special projects may be assigned as needed.

MUST HAVE

Ability to prioritize effectively, use sound judgment, recognize opportunities, evoke change, strong follow‑up skills, intrapersonal skills, excellent communication, attention to detail, process orientation, problem‑solving, and thorough understanding of company confidentiality.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • HS Diploma or GED.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; valid IDs for verification.
  • English proficiency (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension).
  • Willing to work mandatory overtime when needed.
  • Willing and able to submit to pre‑employment and random drug testing.
  • Pass all safety training tests.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
Education/Experience/License Requirements
  • Preferred: Minimum 1 year of experience in a factory environment.
  • Preferred: Experience operating a forklift or pallet jack.
  • Preferred: At least 2 years operating an industrial sewing machine.
  • Strong familiarity with sourcing foam, fibers, threads, and boxes is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance standards and processes is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Sensory Requirements

Ability to utilize touch, hearing, and vision. Use of prescription lenses while operating factory machinery is required. Keen hearing necessary to hear surroundings while operating machinery.

Language Skills

English proficiency required (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension). Knowledge of an additional language is a plus.

Mathematical Skills

Basic arithmetic and algebra.

Reasoning Ability

Sound judgment, adherence to safety procedures, ability to follow directions, ability to follow chain of command, understanding of when to involve others in decision making.

Work Environment

Factory setting, large open area, exposure to heavy machinery and motorized vehicles, extreme temperatures, loud and fast‑paced environment, and occasional stressful situations.

Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. (10–15 lb, 16–20 lb, 21–40 lb, 41–50 lb ranges). Frequencies vary from occasional to constant.
  • Climb, crawl, reach, push/pull, sit, and drive for various weight ranges. Intensities range from light to heavy and very heavy.
  • Move, roll, and press materials; handle, stack, and palletize finished products.
