Job summary

The J.M. Smucker Company is seeking a Quality Assurance Technician for its Decatur, AL facility to support safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

You will analyze raw ingredients and finished products, inspect ingredients and packaging, perform laboratory analyses, and calibrate QA equipment to ensure specifications are met. Ideal candidates have 2–3 years in QA/lab roles, a High School diploma or GED, and strong communication and math skills.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 2–3 years of QA/laboratory experience desirable.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Understanding of basic food science principles.
• Good communication across production departments.

Responsibilities

• Understand JMS Decatur Safety Program policies and work safely.
• Acquire Preventive Controls Qualified Individual training to comply with JMS Decatur requirements.
• Analyze raw ingredients and finished products.
• Inspect and test incoming ingredients and packaging for compliance.
• Perform laboratory analyses during manufacturing to ensure specs.
• Calibrate and standardize QA equipment in lab and process areas.
• Perform data-entry and maintain laboratory files.
• Clean equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand and support the JMS Decatur Safety Program policies and performs work-related activities in a safe manner. Recognize unsafe work conditions and suggest new safety standards as appropriate
• Acquire Preventive Controls Qualified Individual training to comply with JMS Decatur food safety, quality and legal requirements.
• Analyze raw ingredients and finished products
• Inspect and perform testing on incoming ingredients and packaging supplies to assure compliance to specifications
• Perform laboratory analysis as scheduled during manufacturing of products to assure compliance to specifications
• Calibrate and standardize Quality Assurance equipment both in the lab and in-process equipment
• Perform data-entry and computer file maintenance on laboratory analysis
• Clean equipment

Selection Criteria

Education

• High School diploma or GED is required

Experience

• 2-3 years of Quality/laboratory experience is highly desirable

Other

• Basic computer skills
• Must be capable of comprehending and applying principles of basic food science
• Must have basic math skills and troubleshooting abilities
• Must have communication skills for interaction with all production departments at all levels
