Job summary

Fresh Express Harrisburg is seeking a QA Technician to join the Production Team in a fast-paced setting. The role focuses on routine sampling, testing, and documenting results to ensure product quality and compliance with specifications.

The ideal candidate has basic science and computer skills (Excel/Outlook/Word), can read/write in English, and is comfortable working in cold, wet environments, overtime, and long shifts as production demands.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for routine sampling and testing of Fresh Express product at various stages of production.
• Identify, communicate and document out-of-spec samples.
• Make adjustments to ensure specifications are met and recheck after adjustments.
• Enforce GMP rules and perform microbiological analysis as required.
• Conduct and document inspections for food safety and product traceability.
• Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of results.

Job description

Summary:

This is a fast-paced position heavily involved with the mathematical and technical areas. The QA Technician serves as an important supporting member of the Production Team at Fresh Express Harrisburg, PA

Job Function Statements Essential Functions:

1. Responsible for routine sampling and testing of Fresh Express product at various stages of production.
2. Responsible for recognizing, identifying, communicating and documenting out-of-spec samples.
3. Responsible for ensuring that adjustments are made to ensure compliance to specifications, and for rechecking following adjustments to ensure that product is of the highest quality.
4. Responsible for following and helping to enforce GMP rules.
5. Performs microbiological analysis of product (using petrifilm), according to company and customer specs.
6. Performs microbiological analysis of environmental samples, according to company and customer specs.
7. Conducts follow-ups on out of spec test results.
8. Performs computer data entry.
9. Responsible for routine sampling and testing of raw material products, to recognize, identify, and document out-of-spec products.
10. Responsible for effectively communicating inspection information to Production management and Quality team members, as well as business management and Corporate Quality when needed.
11. Responsible for conducting and documenting truck inspections for food safety aspects.
12. Responsible for ensuring product traceability through product code verification on raw materials.
13. Inspects all inbound shipments of raw materials for compliance to Fresh Express quality standards.
14. Supports the QA department by performing any other additional tasks in QA laboratory.
15. Responsible for performing duties listed below:

19. water & air temperature monitoring

21. percent oxygen testing
22. cut quality and blend ratio evaluation
23. total volume testing
24. package weight monitoring
25. seal integrity (leakers testing)
26. finished package temperature monitoring
27. code date verification
28. equipment calibrations
29. CQI and shelf-life sample collection
30. documentation of all results and actions

32. When in the plant the employee is required to wear, hardhat, hearing protection and slip resistant and safety toed shoes.
33. Chemical resistant gloves and eye protection are required when working with chemicals.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

4. Posses the ability to read and interpret documents (in English) such as safety rules, product specifications, etc.
5. Posses the ability to write routine reports and e-mail correspondence (in English).
6. Be capable of working in a cold (32 to 36 degrees F), noisy and wet environment for an entire shift.
7. Be capable of working overtime, including weekends and holidays as required.
8. Be capable of working hours and shifts dictated by production schedule.
9. Be capable of meeting all attendance requirements.
10. Be capable of meeting all required testing frequencies (detailed, fast-paced work).
11. Be capable of standing, on cement, for long periods of time.
12. Be capable of operating measuring instruments, such as the weight scale and thermometer.
13. Be capable of performing basic math calculations and use a calculator.
