Job description

In Quality Assurance (QA), Team Leaders serve as a critical resource to associates and managers within Publix manufacturing facilities by being on-the-floor work participants with associates and covering for vacations and unplanned absences. This includes performing tasks and assuming specific responsibilities of the Department Manager in his/her absence, and planning and conducting job skill training for all associates. Team Leaders report to the Quality Assurance Department Manager.


Additional Responsibilities include:
  1. HACCP Plan development, monitoring and data verification for all products and processes
  2. Maintain Food Safety and Quality Programs including SQF, allergens, SSOPs and other prerequisite programs
  3. Interaction with regulatory and external auditors (Georgia Department of Agriculture, GDA, USDA and 3rd party auditors) which can include accompanying the auditor and corrective action plan follow up
  4. Interaction with plant management which includes assisting departments in researching quality-related issues
  5. Act as QA department point of contact in the absence of the QA manager
  6. Monitor and verify QA department responsibilities
  7. Effectively communicate food safety and quality programs using job instruction training techniques to QA as well as other department associates as needed
  8. Perform tasks in the work area (when necessary) which include:
  9. Being an on the work floor participant with production associates (when necessary)
  10. Cover for unplanned absences
  11. Schedule associate labor needs
  12. Promote and enforce associate quality and food safety standards
  13. Verify the maintenance of equipment, preventive maintenance and work orders
  14. Understand production and ability to execute department requirements
  15. Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices within the facility
  16. Be a role model for plant associates
  17. Track customer complaints, investigation and correspondence
  18. Lead and drive improvement of plant operations through continuous improvement projects
  19. Study and analyze KPI’s and data and apply to departmental improvement
  20. Plan and respond to out of the ordinary events
  21. Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
  1. High school diploma or its equivalent
  2. Must be at least 18 years old
  3. Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds, extended walking/standing (up to 14 hours a day), bending, squatting, and climbing ladders
  4. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  5. Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  6. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  7. Ability to demonstrate safe working habits
  8. Ability to learn and perform all positions
  9. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  10. Understanding of highly complex industrial/manufacturing equipment
  11. Ability to work well with others and be a team player
  12. Ability to work any shift, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours
  13. Willingness to assist other team members in other areas
  14. Ability to perform steady and productive work for an extended period of time
  15. Ability to work efficiently with little or no supervision
  16. Possess basic math skills
  17. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  18. Obvious enthusiasm, initiative, and pride in work

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Some college coursework in Business, Engineering, and/or Food Science
  2. Knowledge of laboratory (chemical and microbiological) and ability to be a resource to all departments
  3. Knowledge of food safety and regulatory compliance and ability to provide assistance to all departments
  4. Knowledge of HACCP and SSOP Programs and ability to train all associates in this area
  5. Department experience related to the position
  6. Knowledge of general Publix and Manufacturing policies and procedures.
