Summary

This role is responsible for overseeing and leading the activities of the Quality Assurance Team to ensure the processing of quality products that meet customer specifications, and that the Shift Manager's team is fully aware of the quality of the produced and packaged products to assist them in meeting customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ensures there is no injury to self or others by following safe work practices (including Standard Operating Procedures) and policies.
  2. Food Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
  3. Attend and participate in all training activities for the position. Ensure the acquired skills and knowledge are applied.
  4. Ensures sanitation of equipment and housekeeping of the entire facility.
  5. Ensures self-compliance with Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  6. Must be a team player and help to meet operational goals.
  7. Conducts oneself in a professional manner and ensures that personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job functions while representing the Company.
  8. Performs all such other duties as may be reasonably assigned by Manager.
  9. Leads the Quality Assurance Team on assigned shift ensuring that the produced and packaged product meets customer and company specifications and expectations.
  10. Communicates with the Shift Manager and other team members on a regular basis throughout the shift to make them aware of any developments that may affect the quality of the product.
  11. Ensures the Lab area is properly staffed and maintained.
  12. Ensures that all information is entered into MMS accurately and in a timely manner.
  13. Ensures the correct /accurate completion of all written documents/ procedures required.
  14. Ensures verification of critical control points (CCP) accurately and in a timely manner.
  15. Leads the QA team members ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  16. Leads QA team members to ensure their compliance with plant policies, procedures and the collective bargaining agreement.
  17. Ensures communication with Shift Manager and other team members on a regular basis throughout the shift to make them aware of any developments affecting the consistent production of quality product.
  18. Ensures team meetings are meaningful in context and encourages team members to express themselves on pertinent problems relating to their jobs.

  1. Must have successfully completed the Job Skill Evaluation to begin training in the position. Must complete the Structured Job Training program within recommended timeframe to remain in the position permanently.
  2. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and calculate percentages to make proper adjustments and calibrations, as required.
  3. Must be able to read, understand, and communicate in English in a manner to successfully complete job duties.
  4. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  5. Must be able to demonstrate manual and physical dexterity.
  6. Must be able to work with hazardous and corrosive chemicals in small areas.
  7. Must be able to tell time and be able to convert regular time to military time.
  8. Must be able to use a computer and successfully navigate through various applications. Must be proficient at computer system data entry.
  9. Must be able to maneuver in close quarters and climb stairs, ladders, and catwalks on a regular basis.
  10. Must be able to stand on concrete floors for long periods of time.
  11. Must be able to work in extreme environments (cold, hot, humid and slippery).
  12. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  13. Must be able to identify hazards and report to appropriate personnel.
  14. Must have an acceptable attendance record.
  15. Must have an acceptable safety record.
  16. Must be able to work in stressful situations.
  17. Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent skills.
  18. One year of food processing experience or relevant college degree.
  19. Must qualify and successfully complete the Training/Orientation Program.
  20. Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of Quality Assurance team functions, Product specifications/standards, Quality Assurance team customer expectations, EEO/Plant policies, and Statistics.
  21. Must possess good human relations skills including; leadership, delegating, coaching, participative management style, subordinate development, and problem solving.
  22. Physical ability to perform the tasks of all jobs in the Quality Assurance Lab.
  23. Must possess strong organizational skills.
  24. Must be able to use portable radios and base radios for communication.
