The Quality Assurance Team is a matrix organization within Beyond Meat dedicated to creating food products leading to the gold standard in plant-based proteins. They are looking for an outstanding person to join the team in our Devault, PA location as a Quality Assurance Supervisor.
The Quality Assurance Supervisor plans and directs activities concerned with developing, implementing, and maintaining quality standards for production processes, materials, and products. This position supervises our Quality Techs to ensure proper protocols, documentation, and production and sanitation oversight meet Beyond Meat standards.
Tasks, Duties, & Responsibilities
- Review quality records for completion, accuracy, and adherence to internal specifications.
- Work with the team to proactively improve the Quality and Food Safety program and Pilot plant production facility to meet company, customer, and regulatory requirements. Act as liaison with local Health inspectors.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standards and methods for routine quality and sanitation inspections and verification.
- Assist in developing and maintaining procedures and work instructions.
- Investigate non-conformances, customer complaints, or quality deviations related to texture, flavor, foreign material, or shelf-life stability.
- Collaborate with R&D, Operations, and Sanitation teams to ensure successful new product launches and process validations.
- Assist in preparing and executing regulatory, customer, and third-party audits (SQF, FDA, etc.).
- Create and manage training materials related to Food Safety & Quality programs for Quality and Sanitation Techs and train new hires.
- Maintain records for product and raw material holds and disposals, including conducting mock recall traceability exercises quarterly.
- Assist in troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and corrective/preventive actions for non-conformance issues.
- Lead and oversee plant GMP & pest control programs, working with pest control providers on corrective actions.
- Oversee the plant sanitation program, reviewing performance, trend analysis, root cause, corrective actions, chemical validation, and hygienic verification.
- Coordinate sampling for testing as needed.
- Lead special projects as required by the QA Department.
- Manage and supervise employees, delegate training, and provide mentorship and ongoing performance feedback and career coaching.
Qualifications
Education, Skills, & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Food Science or Microbiology preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Thorough knowledge of GMP, FDA/USDA, Food Safety, SOPs, and SQF standards.
- Knowledge of LIMS and AOAC standards is desirable.
- Minimum 2 years QA/Food Safety experience in food manufacturing; experience with plant-based products is a plus.
- Understanding of HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, and allergen control.
- Experience with audits, compliance, and customer standards.
- Ability to lead in a fast-paced environment with varying temperature zones.
Other Qualifications:
- Leadership skills focused on results, engagement, decision-making, and teamwork.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Strong mathematical, PC, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to write detailed reports and present information effectively.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize within QA.
Work Environment
- Warehouse and production environment with both tempered and ambient areas.
- Requires visiting production floors, refrigerated and frozen storage areas.
- Flexible shifts, with overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
