Po sition Title: Quality Assurance and Raw Materials Supervisor

Position Profile

Manages the organizations raw material review/receipt process, including, but not limited to, packaging, blending, and raw ingredients qualifications, certifications, specifications and required documentation. Reviews processes, product and documentation to ensure compliance with product certification programs and state and federal regulatory requirements. Reviews and monitors for compliance and makes recommendations to address areas of potential non-compliance. Develops policies and protocols to ensure compliance, and updates policies and protocols to keep up with changes in regulatory and/or certification requirements. Supports execution of Quality Assurance and Food Safety programs. Manages and supervises Raw Material QA Technicians.

Job Accountabilities And Duties

  • Monitors and manages material specifications. Verifies incoming supplier Certificates of Analysis. Performs quarterly preventive control reviews. Coordinates and maintains active item register across departments. Manages material specifications, reviews, updates, and internal communications regarding material specifications.
  • Monitors and manages Supplier Verification Program. Reviews documentation, testing requirements, and Certificates of Analysis for incoming materials and vendors/suppliers, including domestic and foreign suppliers.
  • Supports and reviews corrective actions. Reviews corrective actions related to raw materials and processes. Supports internal audits and assists in related data entry and tracking of continuous improvement activities to support corrective actions. Manages the company’s document control program.
  • Provides technical support stake holders. Provides technical support for Research and Development and Quality Assurance teams. Responds to interdepartmental inquiries and requests for technical product information. Provides technical support in the development of specification sheets, COA’s and other product and facility specific documentation. Assists with investigations or customer quality and food safety issues.
  • Supervises and manages Team. Directly supervises Raw Materials Technicians, strategically directing work assignments and evaluating performance and effectiveness.
  • Develops and strategic work assignments and initiatives.
  • Develops the operating and performance capacity of the team through developing the capabilities of the team members. Provides relevant information updates and training regarding relevant standards and practices, as well as relevant regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Evaluates performance of team members to position expectations and effectively addresses any identified gaps.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration. Acts as a key member of the Quality Assurance administrative team. Actively engages in plant meetings, and provides timely feedback to team. May provide and/or receive input from across functional boundaries. Understands organizational mesh points and potential synergies. Integrates team efforts across business segments and channels. Understands available resources, both in the department and outside of the department and utilizes those resources when appropriate.
  • Leadership. Acts with integrity. Treats others with dignity and respect. Models behavior that is consistent with Red monkey Foods’ Values. Delivers on commitments and deadlines and holds others accountable for the same. Provides functional leadership to all plant departments Acts as a responsible advocate for Regulatory requirements and Food Safety. Understands the importance of compliance and reports any and all observations of non-compliance.

Demonstrates effective presentation, oral and written communication skills, including facilitating and giving presentations. Communicates effectively and professionally to both internal and external parties using appropriate methods and technology. Executes outstanding customer communication and relationship building techniques.
  • Demonstrated Business Acumen. Understands cause and effect relationships with regard to variables that impact the business viability of the organization.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • 5 years of progressive work experience in Quality Assurance, Regulatory, and/or Food Safety in a food manufacturing environment
  • HACCP Certified

Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

  • Solid understanding of state and federal regulations governing food manufacturing, and the ability to apply that knowledge towards the development and execution of policies and programs
  • SQF Practitioner qualified or ability to be.
  • Solid understanding of product certification programs and requirements, and the ability to apply that knowledge to actual practices.
  • Good analytical ability, including the ability to analyze data and make sound recommendations.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Must be organized and detail oriented, and be able to manage multiple tasks with varying priorities.
  • Must be innovative and performance and quality driven.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and capabilities as a part of the plant management team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or relevant software packages
