Wiley X, Inc. is seeking an experienced Quality Lab Manager to oversee daily laboratory operations, ensure ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 compliance, and coordinate inter-laboratory comparisons. You will manage equipment maintenance, calibrations, and documentation to support accurate test results.

You will work with product development and external labs, schedule audits, and lead a team to ensure timely certifications for protective eyewear testing and U.S. Army project requirements.

Qualifications

Our team is supported through an inspirational culture and leadership that is encompassed by never compromising, protection, and trust.Our core values are an important part of who we are.Position Summary:This individual is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 standards, conducting inter-laboratory comparisons, and managing equipment maintenance and calibrations.Responsibilities & Essential Functions:Management Representative:Manage, develop, and maintain the Wiley X, Inc. ISO 9001 and WX Labs ISO 17025 certification and accreditation.Manage relationships with independent test labs, notified bodies, U.S. Army representatives.Coordinate scheduling of product certifications, internal and external audits, supplier visits, etc.Management Reviews:Generate management review reports and maintain meeting schedules.Report on all management review requirements for ISO 17025 and ISO 9001.Follow up on management review action items.Inter-Laboratory Comparisons:Plan and execute inter-laboratory comparison studies to validate the accuracy and reliability of our analytical results.Collaborate with external laboratories to benchmark and improve testing methodologies.Equipment Maintenance and Calibrations:Develop and implement a comprehensive schedule for equipment maintenance and calibration.Oversee the calibration of Wiley X and laboratory instruments to maintain accuracy and precision.Address and rectify any issues related to equipment malfunctions.Measurement Uncertainty:Develop and maintain uncertainty budgets for testing requirements outlined in technical specifications.Ensure budgets are reviewed and adjusted based on equipment variability and updated technical specifications.Design & Development:Work with the product development team and provide guidance on required test parameters.Provide product markings as required by technical specifications and desired test parameters of product.Coordinate with product development team on sample requirements and test scheduling to meet expected launch windows.TestingAdminister and be able to perform mechanical, environmental, and optical testing parameters as outlined in:ANSI Z87.1MIL-PRF-32432 MCEPSCSA Z94.3AS/NZS 1337.1AS/NZS 1337.6AS/NZS 1067.Certify test results.Work with notified body on specific product certifications required for the Australia / New Zealand market.Stay up to date on current revisions to the MCEPS requirements.Work closely with the U.S. Army in developing test plans.Work with independent laboratories for 2-year APEL certification.Maintain scheduling of 6-month APEL retention testing.Risks & Opportunities:Understand and mitigate risks as required by the Senior Leadership Team.Understand and bring opportunities to fruition i.e.: departmental, organizational, etc.Maintain documented information on risks and opportunities to ensure they are tracked to completion.Internal Audits:Obtain internal auditor training and certification for ISO 17025 and ISO 9001.Coordinate and perform internal audits as required.Report on audit results and ensure required follow-up actions are completed in a timely fashion.Document / Data Control and RecordkeepingMonitor and enhance company and laboratory processes.Maintain accurate and up-to-date documents and records including procedures, process controls, corrective action, KPI’s, quality control data, etc.Suggest and implement improvements based on available data.Follow up on areas that are missing targets.Nonconforming Product, InspectionsPerform and document product inspections at various stages, i.e.: Inline, Incoming, etc.Maintain appropriate scrap records/KPI’s and monitor performance.Conduct Lot Acceptance Testing (LAT), including sampling.Maintain nonconforming product process and disposition products as required.Lens Cutting:Monitor and maintain the performance of lens cutting equipment.Inspect finished lenses for quality and accuracy.Staff Training, Development, and Collaboration:Provide training to team on the management systems, ISO 9001 and ISO 17025, and ensure understanding and compliance.Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within Wiley X and the Lab.Work closely with other departments to ensure seamless integration of processes into overall company operations.Required Skills/Abilities:Strong knowledge of inter-laboratory comparisons, equipment maintenance, and calibration processes.Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.Excellent leadership and communication skills.Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.Minimum Qualifications:Associate degree in a relevant scientific field.
