GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Performs periodic process control and qualification tests on cable products to insure conformance to quality standards and customer requirements. Uses applicable test methods and inspection procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs physical tests on cables and components. Evaluates test results and trends, makes "pass or fail" decisions and initiates additional testing pursuant to failures. Utilizes test equipment such as tensile testers, micrometer, calipers and other precision measuring devices.
    • Assist with development of test methods, procedures, and quality inspections as needed
    • Provide technical training as needed in topics of quality control and testing
    • Perform all tests and inspections within specified Routine Laboratory Test Duration Standards
  • Use computer software and applications to accurately document, record, and store all quality data resulting from product inspections, testing, and audits.
    • Maintains laboratory records, inputs analytical data in quality record keeping system
    • Create, review, and certify product test data reports (CTR's) for accuracy in a timely manner.
  • Provide support to Product Development Engineers for:
    • Trial testing and data collection during qualification and validation activities
  • Assist with traceability of test requirements in development of new product quality checks:
    • Perform product data traces as needed usingSAP
    • Assist UL inspector with all aspects of product inspections
    • Develop full understanding of ICEA sampling plans
  • Must develop a full proficiency in executing the management of scrap waste:
    • Assist with cable repair assignments in locating cable defects and execution of rework activities
  • Must perform audits, raw materials inspections, in-process, and final inspection of products:
    • Prepare, test, and measure product samples per standards for conformance to specifications.
    • Evaluate and analyze results of product physical, electrical properties
    • Assist with development of test methods, procedures, and quality inspections as needed
    • Assist with initial investigation of customer returns, non-conformances, and material rejections.
  • Continually re-establish and maintain a safe, clean work environment in the physical test lab areas.
  • Assist with the planning and restocking of laboratory equipment and test supplies.
  • Develop knowledge of products, production, customer requirements, and manufacturing processes.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment contributing to product quality.
  • High school education or the equivalent.
  • Career Readiness Certification required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THIS JOB:

  • Technician will be standing and walking the majority of the workday. Repeated lifting, pushing, and pulling objects in excess of 40 pounds will be necessary. Mechanical moving equipment is available for handling heavy weights.
  • Must be able to move about freely in an industrial environment
  • Good eyesight (safety glasses required) for detailed visual inspections, and be capable ofdistinguishing colors correctly.
  • Ability to hear; excessive noise level requires the use of a hearing PPE.

  • On the Job Training (OJT) - Will use company systems - SAP
  • Must demonstrate proficiency with MS Word, to create, edit and save documents and procedures.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency with MS Excel, to create, modify and save spreadsheets, utilizing formulas and tables.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency with various equipment (micro-ohmmeter, tensile testers, megohmmeter, visual measuring equipment, etc.)
  • Must demonstrate proficiency with sample preparation tools/equipment (lathe, band-saw, polisher, die-cutters, planes, skiver, etc.)
