Job Description
Position: Quality Assurance Field Inspector (QAFP) – Geotechnical
Reports to: Chief Engineer
General Qualities:
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Thorough knowledge of construction processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to navigate company internet-based systems.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions; physically capable of performing tasks such as walking on rough terrain, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Proactive self-starter capable of setting a positive example for staff.
Technical Responsibilities:
- Responsible for geotechnical inspections.
- Perform oversight inspections and audits to ensure compliance with Plans, Specifications, Quality Control Plans, and other provisions.
- Conduct field surveillance of quality procedures, verify corrective actions, and review testing, inspection, and sampling documents.
- Review quality control and quality assurance records.
- Prepare and submit detailed daily work records in accordance with NYSDOT Manual of Uniform Record Keeping (MURK) or other approved forms.
- Review technical drawings and engineering data; ensure structures are built according to specifications.
- Conduct site visits, analyze engineering problems, propose solutions, and provide recommendations.
Requirements:
- Minimum of five years of experience in off-site fabrication and/or on-site erection of steel structures.
- AWS (American Welding Society) Certification as Welding Inspector (CWI) is highly desirable but not mandatory.
- Experience with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is highly desirable but not mandatory.
- ICC bolting inspector certification is highly desirable but not mandatory.
