Job description

The wholesale distribution industry is ready for a revolution, and Proton is leading the charge. The world relies on distributors to sell nearly every physical product, but despite its massive contribution to the global economy, this industry has been left behind in terms of technology. Proton is changing that. With AI-powered sales software, we’re breaking through the complexity of selling millions of products and making it easier for distributors to anticipate customer needs. Our mission is to bring the distribution industry into the modern age and the results speak for themselves. Distributors using Proton see 10x ROI, faster new hire ramp-up, and happier sales teams.

In 2022, we raised a $20M Series A backed by Felicis Ventures (investors in Twitch, Shopify, Opendoor, and many others) and Battery Ventures . This year, we’re laser-focused on driving customer growth. If you’re excited about the opportunity to wear multiple hats, and continuously learn and experiment, now’s the time to join the Proton team.

The Role

We’re looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer who will report to an Engineering Manager. The Quality Assurance Engineer will be responsible for reviewing everything before it gets into a customer’s hands. In addition to acting as a quality checkpoint, the Quality Assurance Engineer will partner with leadership to develop and report on quality trends. The Quality Assurance Engineer will also be responsible for the daily triage of inbound support cases, creating and maintaining test designs for all user stories, replacing manual tests with automation and integrating them into CI/CD. The triage process will involve resolving some non-technical issues directly, while also ensuring that tickets get into the right hands and owning follow-up to ensure they are resolved.

Proton collaborates with Oyster HR to hire international employees as full time (long term) contractors within our company.

The target salary range for this role is $40,000 - $60,000 USD. Final offers will be based on your skills and previous experience.

What you'll do

  • Test new product features in their development phase as part of a scrum team
  • Create and maintain test designs for all product features
  • Implement test automation framework from scratch
  • Manual and automation testing 50/50
  • Regression testing
  • Manage and report on all incoming technical support inquiries
  • Ensure that all customer inquiries and issues are solved correctly and in a prompt and professional manner

You'll be a great fit for this role if you have:

  • Natural curiosity: You have a bias towards learning something new through action rather than through questions.
  • Problem solving skills: You enjoy tackling difficult problems and are able to understand and take action on complex ideas quickly.
  • AI curiosity and experience: You’ve used AI tools (like AI-based test automation platforms, Copilot, or ChatGPT) in your QA or development workflow—or you’re actively exploring how AI can streamline and improve software testing.
  • Experience: You have worked successfully on a quality management team in a start-up environment
  • Independence:You take ownership of your own work and thrive when given creative freedom. You like to experiment with new concepts, and don't mind making mistakes, so long as you learn from them. You are able to complete projects with little oversight
  • Organization skills.Must be able to keep track of requests from multiple stakeholders and prioritize and communicate them
  • Team spirit . Must be able to recognize when you are in over your head and need support from others and being quick to support others when they need the same
  • Agility: Things move quickly when you're growing as quickly as we are. You can adapt to new and interesting challenges that you face every day, even when they're different from the ones you faced yesterda

Other skills that we value:

  • Ideally 2-4 years of quality assurance experience
  • API testing and integration testing
  • E2E testing
  • Experience using AI tools for QA testing or workflow automation (e.g., for test case generation, visual regression, debugging, or code assistance)
  • Prior start up experience is required
  • Experience creating test plans
  • Experience partnering with product teams to solution on behalf of customers
  • Experience owning triage is a plus
  • Experience in a customer facing role is a plus
  • Competitive Salaries + Company Stock Options - we want to pay you well (and equitably!) and make you feel like an owner.
  • Flexible Schedule - we think high levels of autonomy, responsibility and working asynchronously foster an amazing workplace.
  • Unlimited PTO + 10 Company Paid Holidays - we even have tools implemented to detect burnout to make sure folks recharge regularly.
  • 12 Weeks Fully Paid Parental Leave - that goes for primary and secondary caregivers; even if you’re adopting or fostering!
  • Biannual Company Paid off-sites - time for us to be together, brainstorm, and make magic happen.

Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way.
