The Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA), established in 1916, is a dairy farmer-owned and operated milk marketing cooperative and dairy processor. As the 10th largest dairy cooperative in the U.S., we proudly serve dairy farmers across Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana. With a workforce of around 625 employees spread across four states, MMPA is deeply rooted in the dairy industry. We operate multiple facilities, including the Middlebury Cheese Company in Indiana, Superior Dairy in Ohio, and two SQF Level 3 dairy ingredient plants in Michigan. Job Overview: Quality analysts will monitor, verify, check and evaluate documentation, processes, programs, and employees habits so that Superior Dairy can deliver the highest quality products to our customers and consumers. He or she must communicate with other associates, supervision, maintenance personnel, quality analysts, and laboratory technicians.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform verification of process control in the following, but not limited to, areas of Raw, Blend, HTST/Processing, Ice Cream, Caseless blow mold, Caseless filling, Traditional filling
  • Pre-Operational inspection: visual/ATP swabbing
  • Understand environmental pathogens and testing program. Sample and ship swabs according to environmental monitoring policy.
  • Sensory evaluation of fresh and end of code products
  • Sampling, inspection, and recording lot codes of incoming ingredients. Maintenance of incoming ingredients holds including follow-up on results and rechecks, when necessary or requested.
  • Verify incoming labels against product specifications for compliance.
  • Inspection and recording lot codes of ingredients and packaging used
  • Verification of operator documentation
    • Take products weights, check product codes and identification, check products seals and caps, and evaluate product and packaging against specifications
  • Evaluate product and package quality to assure customer satisfaction and customer service
  • Evaluate processing environment/GMP's and assist in sanitation issues
  • Perform area GMP's audits as requested by QA management
  • Collect in-process samples and verify appropriate collection of finished product samples
  • Communicate evaluation results with operators and supervision
  • Take product temperatures
  • Shift-to-shift monitoring of micro counts to release System or Quality holds, footbath concentrations, cooler/freezer temperatures, rebuild pallets, vitamin addition in milk, blow mold leak detect verification, resin rations, finished product and corn syrup tank temperatures, water quality (RO Chlorine, Hardness, sanitizer concentrations), and time that raw milk silos are washed/filled
  • Keep detailed records and complete process control documentation in a timely, accurate, and complete manner
  • Understand the importance of data collected and the interpretation of that data
  • Maintain the Hold and Release program according to the outlined policy
  • Perform metal detector checks during ice cream operation. Verify metal detector rejections
  • Calibrate scales, thermometers, and measuring devices
  • Weekly verification of Ohio Department of Agriculture pasteurizer seals
  • Be knowledgeable in raw milk receiving procedures in order to, when necessary, reject or accept tanker loads of raw milk
  • Perform random trailer audits
  • Analyze bottle measurements for blowmold
  • Perform pasteurization checks using the phosphatase testing equipment
  • Maintain and organize documentation
  • Participate in internal plant inspections and outside audits
  • Communicate with customers as necessary
  • Send Certificates of Analysis as required by customers
  • Obtain and ship customers require samples according to sampling calendar or at their request
  • Communicate and pull rechecks of product as needed based on QA Laboratory results
  • Monitor employee adherence to procedures, processes, and GMPs
  • Monitor incoming raw milk testing
  • Have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, email, copying and faxing
  • Specific Training Requirements:
    • Safety, Chemical Use, GMP, SQF, HACCP, Allergen, HAZ COM, CIP, Chart Documentation, Milk Sensory


What We're Looking For:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or 3+ years related experience and/or training within a food manufacturing business preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
  • Develop a strong understanding of the plant capabilities and flow
