Job description

What You Will Do

This position is open for external candidates only to apply.

This position will serve as a Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) point-of-contact for the National Nuclear Security Administration's Quality Evaluation Requirements Tracking System (QERTS), a database and execution software used to document and track surveillance work across the Nuclear Security Enterprise. This position will also be responsible for administrative support for Stockpile Finding Notifications and Investigations. The Weapon Systems Engineering (W) Division provides systems engineering and program management to ensure the safety, reliability, and security of our nation's nuclear stockpile for the entire life cycle. W-Division is responsible for leadership of activities in stockpile surveillance, assessment, certification, and life extension projects. The Systems Surveillance Group (W-9), within W-Division, is the Design Agency representative to the National Nuclear Security Administration's Nuclear Security Enterprise for Surveillance activities. W-9 establishes surveillance requirements and provides oversight of surveillance activities associated with LANL-designed systems at Production Agencies across the enterprise.

The selected candidate will join the Systems Surveillance group (W-9) as a Quality Assurance Analyst 1. In this role, the candidate will support surveillance tracking, assurance of quality records, database management, and communication with internal and external partners to ensure surveillance work is accurately documented, monitored and reported. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Develop working knowledge of LANL surveillance tracking systems, including Quality Evaluation Requirements Tracking System (QERTS), Logistics, Accounting, Planning, and Scheduling (LAPS) system, and Stockpile Finding Information Database System (SFIDS), through training, mentoring and hands-on experience. Maintain quality evaluation and surveillance requirements data in QERTS and LAPS in accordance to assigned role.
  • Coordinate with surveillance engineers, program representatives, and partner organizations to collect, verify, enter, and transmit required surveillance info information by established deadlines.
  • Review system entries and supporting documentation to ensure information is accurate, complete, and consistent with applicable written requirements, procedures, federal requirements, and program planning documents.
  • Support surveillance tracking and reporting through activities that may include generating monthly records, reviewing requirements and status reports, and identifying discrepancies or missing information.
  • Maintain historical records and refence documents used to support surveillance tracking, anomaly reporting, and quality evaluation activities.
  • Support change control activities and help identify and report data flow or system issues between QERTS and LAPS.
  • Perform administrative activities, including monitoring timeline standards, tracking action items, and facilitating communication across organizations.
  • Participate in monthly and quarterly meetings with QERTS representatives aimed at resolving issues and recommending improvements to the QERTS application.
  • Maintain SFIDS information, including user permissions, anomaly data, deadlines, historical repository documents and system forms used for intake, anomaly reporting, and closure activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, streamline processes, support knowledge transfer, and improve the usability and effectiveness of surveillance tracking systems.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Software Applications

Basic experience in business, administrative, or organizational computing systems, and applications

  • Entry-level experience using software applications such as databases, spreadsheets, tracking systems, or other tools used to enter, manage, review and report information.
Data Entry, Transcription, and Records Accuracy
  • Ability to accurately transcribe, enter, review, and maintain data from source documents into electronic systems with attention to detail and consistency.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify discrepancies, ask clarifying questions, and support accurate records management.
Customer Service and Stakeholder Support
  • Demonstrated customer service experience, including the ability to respond professionally, communicate clearly, and support customers or stakeholders in a timely and helpful manner.
Organization and Accountability
  • Ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks, follow established written requirements and procedures, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete assignments accurately and on time.
Teamwork and Communication
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with coworkers, subject-matter experts, and internal or external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to document information clearly and share updates with stakeholders.
  • Applicants must have the ability to obtain a Q clearance and Sigma 15 authorization.

Education/Experience: Position requires a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to Quality Assurance.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Limited or entry-level knowledge of NNSA technical business practices and policies.
  • Previous experience with data entry or database software applications.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

  • Prior experience with LANL-specific systems such as QERTS, LAPS, or SFIDS is not required. The selected candidate will receive training, mentoring, and hands-on experience to develop working knowledge of these applications and related surveillance tracking processes.
  • Candidates with strong attention to detail, customer service experience, data entry or records management skills, and the ability to learn new software applications are encouraged to apply.
  • Occasional travel will be required.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
