Position Overview

The Corrections Qualified Mental Health Professional functions as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team providing professional services to mentally ill and/or mentally disabled prisoners within the Michigan Department of Corrections. Responsibilities include mental health evaluations, referrals, monitoring progress, and ensuring continuity of care. They conduct psychosocial assessments, interventions, and consultations, and assist with community discharge services.

Qualifications

• Education: Possession of a master's degree in psychology, social work, or counseling.
• Experience:
• QMHP 9: No specific experience required.
• QMHP 10: One year of professional experience providing QMHP services.
• QMHP P11: Two years of professional experience, including one year at QMHP 10 level.

Additional Requirements

• Michigan license to practice as a psychologist, social worker, counselor, registered nurse, or other QMHP.
• Pre-appointment, random, and post-accident drug testing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of mental health counseling, assessments, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and related techniques. Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, make clinical judgments, communicate effectively, develop therapeutic relationships, and maintain records.
