Position: Medication Aide

As a Medication Aide, you will assist residents in administering their daily medication.

Required Experience for Medication Aide:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in Healthcare, Geriatrics, Caregiving, or working with the elderly preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to various personalities and situations.
  • Aptitude for dementia-related situations.
  • Understanding that errors may have serious consequences for residents.
  • Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and willingness to assist residents based on their cognitive level.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • CMA certification.
  • TB clearance.
Responsibilities for Medication Aide:
  • Prepare and administer medication and treatments as ordered by physicians, following policies and procedures.
  • Verify resident identity before administering medication or treatment.
  • Follow hand-washing policies, universal precautions, and infection control procedures.
  • Order medications, supplies, and equipment as needed.
  • Remove expired or discontinued medications appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate medication records and ensure keys are always accounted for.
  • Review medication sheets for completeness and accuracy.
  • Report discrepancies, unusual situations, or resident complaints to your supervisor.
  • Complete documentation duties as per community policies.
  • Assist in admitting, transferring, and discharging residents.
  • Review charts for treatment, medication, and diet orders as needed.
  • Notify the nurse in charge of changes in resident condition.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and sanitary manner.
  • Show courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude to residents, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Report accidents, incidents, and suspected abuse immediately.
  • Document important events in the 24-hour report.
  • Assist with activities of daily living and social development of residents.
  • Help with light housekeeping tasks.
  • Escort residents for meals and assist as needed.
  • Perform any delegated duties to ensure residents' dignity, safety, and rights, complying with all regulations.
General Working Conditions:

This role requires standing for extended periods, effective communication, and physical activity including lifting up to 25 pounds. Must be organized, compassionate, and empathetic. May involve bending, reaching, and occasional travel. Noise level is moderate.
