SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of the Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) is to provide care for residents under the direction of nursing and medical staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtain and record patient's vital signs and weight.
- Administer and document medications according to physician’s orders, including oral, topical, suppository medications, and eye and ear drops.
- Participate in all in-service programs to develop skills; maintain compliance with personnel policies, community policies, and regulations including HIPAA, Fire Safety, and Disaster Preparedness plans.
- Perform treatments not requiring a licensed nurse, such as hot/cold applications, vital signs, and weights, using proper techniques and precautions.
- Observe, record, and report medication effects and other observations.
- Take vital signs as needed before medication administration.
- Provide direct resident care and function as a CNA when not administering medications.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with residents, visitors, and co-workers.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- QMA Certificate in good standing and current CNA Certificate.
- One year experience in a long-term care setting preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk, and lift/move up to 100 pounds.
- Visual and auditory abilities sufficient for communication.
- Work environment noise level is usually moderate.
