Position Overview:

The QMA is part of the community nursing team, responsible for setting up, administering, and recording prescribed medications for residents under supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and administer prescribed oral, eye, nasal, and ear medications safely and document accordingly.
• Prepare and administer topical medications to intact skin.
• Administer PRN drugs when authorized by a licensed nurse.
• Verify physician orders against medication forms.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper storage of medications and ensure a clean work environment.
• Keep medication cart locked when unattended.
• Care for and position resident tubing and bags as instructed.
• Conduct rounds and report needs and conditions to the charge nurse.
• Administer vital signs and document properly.
• Keep medical records current with timely charting, co-signed by a licensed nurse.
• Order medications from pharmacy per physician’s instructions.
• Use drug references if unsure about medication administration.
• Count drugs on control records during shift change with the charge nurse.
• Respond promptly and courteously to call lights, sensors, and alarms.

Qualifications:

• Active, valid Qualified Medication Aide certification in the employed state.
• Active, valid Certified Nursing Assistant certification in the employed state.
