Job summary

Transocean is seeking an Oiler to monitor and lubricate engines and mechanical equipment aboard our vessel. You will report to the Chief Mechanic/Engineer and work within established HSE protocols to maintain safe operations.

Required certifications include RFPEW STCWIII/4-(QMED OILER), MMC and medical/training certificates, plus a High School Diploma or relevant technical education. Preference for military discharge and trade school graduates.

  • Current MMC and all applicable medical/training certifications.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, or relevant craft certificate.
  • Graduate of Trade School or University where knowledge applies to job requirements.
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates.
  • Basic Computer Skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lubricate moving parts, gears, shafts and bearings on engines and auxiliary equipment.
  • Monitor engine room temperatures and pressures.
  • Check lubricating oil level readings and top up as required.
  • Maintain daily log of engine room equipment.
  • Monitor engine room systems for leaks and report defects.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs as directed.
  • Assist with repairs to engines and equipment in engine room and machine shop.
  • Maintain a clean, hazard-free engine room and workshop.

Job Description
REPORTING:

Reports to Chief Mechanic/Mechanic or Second Engineer/Third Engineer

SUPERVISION:

None

PRE-REQUISITE/QUALIFICATION:
  • High School Diploma (U.S.)/ Proof of Completion of Formal Education or Relevant Craft Certificate (where applicable)
  • Successful Military Discharge – Preferred for U.S.
  • Graduate of Trade School or University where knowledge and training acquired are applicable to job requirements – Preferred
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Rating Forming part of an Engineering Watch(RFPEW) STCWIII/4-(QMED OILER)
  • Current MMC and all applicable medical/training certifications

DUTIES:

The underlying expectation is that all duties are carried out in compliance with the Company Operational Discipline expectations and HSE requirements. When considering assignment of duties for the Oiler, the Supervisor and the Oiler will apply the Control of Work process to determine if the assigned role is appropriate. This means confirming that the individuals involved have the knowledge, skills, and experience to carry out the task, and the task plan complies with policy before they are authorized to proceed.

GENERAL DUTIES:

Operations/Maintenance:

  • Lubricate moving parts such as gears, shafts, and bearings on engines and auxiliary equipment.
  • Monitor working temperatures and pressures on all engine room and associated equipment.
  • Check and record lubricating oil level readings - top up as required.
  • Maintain daily log of all engine room equipment.
  • Monitor all engine room systems for leaks and report any defects immediately.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs on the engine room equipment and machinery as directed.
  • Assist with repairs to engines and equipment in engine room and machine shop.
  • Maintain the engine room and associated workshop in a clean, tidy and hazard-free condition.
