Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) seeks a QMED-Oiler Instructor to lead the USCG-endorsed marine engineering curriculum for aspiring mariners at Tongue Point in Astoria, OR. This full-time role includes classroom instruction, hands-on training, and occasional Chief Engineer duties on training vessels.

You will mentor students, assess progress, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance across labs, simulators, and workshops while pursuing professional development within a supportive

Qualifications

• Valid QMED credential from USCG and STCW certification for engineering.
• Sea experience in engineering roles and knowledge of maritime regs.
• Ability to design USCG-approved curriculum and assess learners.
• Current medical fitness certificate and maritime safety certifications.
• Teaching/training certification through a USCG program is required.

Responsibilities

• Curriculum delivery: design lessons and practicums per USCG curriculum.
• Instruction and Training: teach classes, lead hands-on sessions, supervise lab exercises.
• Serve as Chief Engineer on Tongue Point training vessels during underway training (1–2 times/week).
• Mentor engineering students, ensure curriculum adherence and quality.
• Student assessment: evaluate progress, provide feedback, and record results.
• Laboratory/workshop maintenance: oversee safety and equipment readiness.
• Compliance and Safety: ensure training meets maritime standards and regulations.
• Professional development: stay current with industry practices and certifications.
• Collaboration with the Maritime Industry: engage stakeholders to align training with job opportunities.
• Administration and reporting: manage schedules, records, and required reports.
