Job summary

Traditionsatnorthwillow is seeking a QMA to administer medications to residents in accordance with state regulations and community policies. The role includes supporting residents to maintain independence and quality of life, with emphasis on safe medication practices.

The position involves handling prescriptions, documenting doses, monitoring residents, and communicating health changes to the nursing team while ensuring privacy under HIPAA guidelines.

Qualifications

• State-approved training in medication administration is required.
• Current QMA certificate for the state is required.
• Annual medication evaluation with a Registered Pharmacy Consultant is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and administers prescribed medications safely and documents administration.
• Administers PRN medications as allowed by a licensed nurse.
• Checks orders against medication forms and maintains accurate records.
• Keeps medication cart secure and maintains clean storage and work areas.
• Records vital signs and reports changes to the charge nurse promptly.
• Complies with HIPAA and privacy laws regarding resident and staff information.

Job description

As a QMA, you’ll administer medications to residents according to state regulations and community policies, while also providing support, monitoring, and communication to ensure residents’ needs are met. You will play a key role in helping residents maintain independence and quality of life.

QMA Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepares and administers safely and documents regularly prescribed oral, eye, nasal, and ear medications to residents. Prepares and administers topical medications to intact skin.
• Administers as allowed PRN drugs when authorized by a licensed nurse.
• Uses the Physician’s Desk Reference or other appropriate drug reference if ever unsure or unclear as to drug being administered.
• Checks physician’s orders against medication forms.
• Maintains cleanliness and proper storage of all drugs and maintains a clean working environment.
• Keeps medication cart locked while unattended.
• Care for and position all patient tubing and bags as instructed.
• Counts all drugs on Individual Control Drug Records with on-coming charge person at shift change.
• Makes rounds and reports needs and conditions to the charge nurse as applicable.
• Administers vital signs and documents properly.
• Keeps medical records current by charting pertinent resident conditions timely and routine charting as scheduled, with co-signature by licensed nurse.
• Answer call lights, bed/chair sensors, pull-pin alarms, and security care bracelet alarms promptly and courteously.
• Order medications from pharmacy per physician order.
• Complies with the facility’s privacy practices and procedures related to resident and employee records and all state/federal privacy laws as outlined by HIPAA.

QMA Qualifications and Skills:

• Ability to work overtime.
• Successful completion of a state approved training program in medication administration.
• Must complete annual medication evaluation with Registered Pharmacy Consultant.
