Job summary

Western Utility Telecom is seeking an NDT Inspector to join the Fernley, NV facility represented by Yellowstone Local. You will perform UT/MT/VT inspections on welded steel assemblies, review drawings, and document nonconformances to customer specs, collaborating with QA leadership to maintain quality in a fast-paced production environment.

This full-time, on-site role requires Level II UT/MT certifications, a high school diploma, and willingness to travel occasionally.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Level II certifications in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) under an employer-based program aligned with ASNT SNT-TC-1A required.
• Ability to meet the company’s written practice and qualification requirements before performing independent inspections.
• Hands-on experience performing conventional ultrasonic weld inspections and straight-beam/thickness testing.
• Ability to interpret inspection results, identify defects, and document findings accurately.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, weld symbols, and inspection procedures preferred.
• Familiarity with AWS D1.1 and applicable AWS, ASCE, AISC, and ASTM standards preferred.
• Experience in steel fabrication, manufacturing, or production quality control preferred.
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred.
• Ability to use UT and MT equipment, reference standards, and dimensional measuring tools.
• Basic arithmetic and geometry skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when maintaining inspection records.
• Familiarity with Adobe, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
• Ability to communicate inspection findings clearly with quality and production teams.
• Willingness to work additional hours during peak production periods and travel occasionally as needed.
• Ability to work safely in a steel fabrication environment while following established safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform quality inspections on manufactured steel products and assemblies.
• Conduct conventional ultrasonic testing (UT) on welds and perform straight-beam and thickness testing.
• Perform magnetic particle testing (MT) and visual testing (VT) within your qualifications.
• Inspect materials, components, and finished products to verify compliance with customer specs.
• Review fabrication drawings, work orders, weld symbols, and inspection requirements.
• Identify and document weld defects, material issues, and other nonconformances.
• Prepare Nonconformance Reports and maintain inspection records and material traceability.
• Verify compliance with approved welding procedures and document repairs and reinspections.
• Accept, reject, or hold inspected materials per procedures and authority.
• Set up inspection equipment and perform calibration and standardization checks.
• Communicate inspection findings to QA Manager/NDT Level III and production staff.
• Travel to customer or vendor locations occasionally as needed.

Your New Role
