Job summary

LANXESS East Hanover is seeking a Laboratory Technician to conduct chemical and physical tests on finished products and batch materials. You will operate analytical instrumentation and maintain calibration, documenting results clearly. The role emphasizes wet chemistry and ASTM/SAE/FTM testing, SAP data interfaces, audits, and root-cause investigations.

Second-shift hours are 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. This role also offers growth opportunities, competitive benefits, and a strong commitment to safety

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience with wet chemistry techniques (viscosity, density, water analysis).
  • Strong communication and attention to detail; ability to work 2nd shift (3:00 PM–11:30 PM).

Responsibilities

  • Operate testing equipment and maintain calibration of instruments.
  • Perform ASTM, SAE, and FTM tests on intermediates and finished batches.
  • Aviation-specific performance testing, viscometric testing, and water analysis.
  • Characterize ultra-clean requirements using spectroscopic counters.
  • Perform gravimetric Millipore filtration analysis.
  • Conduct wet chemical titration, Karl Fischer, and Specific Gravity analyses.
  • Document results accurately and interface with SAP; support audits.
  • Support root-cause analysis with data and testing results.
  • Participate in internal and external laboratory audits and safety initiatives.

Job description

Conducts chemical and physical laboratory tests of finished products and batch raw materials.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Operate performance testing equipment and analytical instrumentation as well as insuring proper maintenance, calibration, and repairs when needed.
  • Perform detailed ASTM, SAE, and FTM testing of key characteristics for intermediates and finished production batches.
  • Aviation-specific performance testing, Viscometric testing, and water analysis.
  • Characterization of ultra-clean requirements using Spectroscopic light scattering particle counters
  • Quantitative gravimetric Millipore filtration analysis
  • Wet chemical titration methods including Karl Fisher,Specific Gravity.
  • Perform routine control charting on critical tests and troubleshoot/communicate deviations or trends
  • Operate Production laboratory to test inline packaged material and authorize line approvals to package manufactured product as well as provide support to Production for maintaining product quality and integrity
  • Maintain accurate, well-organized, and defensible documentation of all results - interface with software such as SAP.
  • Support root-cause analysis investigations and corrective actions with data compilation and testing.
  • Participate in both internal quality audits and external customer audits of the laboratory performance.
  • Develop improvements in the accuracy and efficiency of the laboratory processes.
  • Perform PTHAs, JSAs, and support plant/department Safety and 5S initiatives.
Experience / Skills
  • Education Minimum of a High school diploma with significant testing experience is required; Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience testing in a chemical lab revolving around wet chemistry techniques (viscosity, density, & water analysis).
  • Must have strong communication skills (written and verbal) and a strong attention to detail.
  • Willing to work 2nd shift hours, Monday - Friday from 300 PM to 1130 PM.
