Job summary

North American Stainless in Ghent, Kentucky, seeks a QC Tech Rep to support quality initiatives across the Flat and Long Products Groups, manage customer claims, and ensure timely disposition of materials. You will assist in ISO compliance, generate internal quality reports, respond to test certificate requests, and help relay customer information to Operations and Inspection.

Job description

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for providing professional quality service and processing support involving quality, in-process quality and customer service. Supports NAS total quality program to improve customer requirements. The QC Tech Rep will be involved in all or a portion of the Essential Job Functions. QC Tech Reps support both the Flat Products Group and the Long Products Group.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Claims: Customer claims or complaints received from customer field or Inside Sales to be reviewed, analyzed and dispositioned in a timely manner. Situations requiring customer visits before material disposition need to be scheduled and completed quickly to prevent delays. This also involves follow up and dispositioning of returning material.
  • Quality Solutions: Disposition of material after finishing a process to ensure continuous material flow with limited interruptions.
  • NAS Internal Reports: Will be involved in generating internal quality reports for QC in general. These could also include month end reports and analysis.
  • ISO: Will assist the QC Supervisor in maintaining the Quality System for ISO considerations.
  • Test Certificates: Will assist the QC Engineers in fielding requests for Metallurgical Test Certificates. Requests for special specifications will be monitored through the QC Engineers.
  • Customer Services Calls: General calls from customers will be fielded through the QC Tech Rep. Any technical issues will be forwarded to the QC Engineers.
  • Customer Specification: Will assist in maintaining and updating to current revisions.
  • Plant/Process Work: Will be responsible for relaying customer information to, and working with Operations and Inspection on customer issues.
  • Trip Reports/Order Follow-up: Information is to be gathered from customer visits and returned to NAS to update/research current orders for the mentioned applications and requirements.
  • Travel: Will be responsible for routine visits to customers and their processing facilities.
  • In House Projects: Responsible for managing and reporting on status of special in-house projects.
  • NAS Warehouse: This position will also support NAS Warehouses through claim evaluation, coordination, and quality support.
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Degree with experience in the steel industry/exposure to steel processing.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Mobility in plant
  • While performing the duties of (this job), the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, etc.
  • The employee is frequently required to make use of their hands for technical tasks
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Visual ability with or without correction
  • Communication abilities
HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately

    • Hard Hat
  • Some areas may require additional personal protective equipment such as:
    • Respirators; the respirator requires you to be clean shaven in order to comply with company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations.
  • Fire Retardant clothing
  • Acid PPE
  • Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy
  • Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines
  • Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
