Job summary

Thompson Pipe Group is seeking a Quality Control Technician to join the Quality Control department, working with Production Operations to ensure top quality for precast products. You will inspect materials, mix designs, and finished products, and maintain calibration and documentation to meet project QA requirements.

The role requires blueprint literacy, basic math, and familiarity with precast equipment. Training will support you toward industry QC certifications.

Qualifications

• Precast concrete QC certification from ACI strength testing preferred.
• ACPA Quality School, NPCA PQS I or PCI Level I preferred.
• 2 years precast concrete experience preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and drawings required.
• Familiarity with precast production tools and equipment required.
• Excel experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Record conformance to engineering and customer specs via inspection and testing of rock, sand, concrete, and precast products.
• Maintain cylinder break records per quality control manual and ACPA requirements.
• Inspect raw materials, batching, and post-test to confirm concrete qualities meet specs.
• Ensure proper mix designs are programmed for each product type.
• Operate and maintain quality testing equipment per manuals.
• Calibrate production and testing equipment per local standards.
• Perform pre-pour and post-pour inspections.

Overview:

The Quality Technician will work within the Quality Control department and alongside Production Operations to ensure the highest level of quality for Thompson Pipe Group – Precast products. The position will collaborate with various departments within the facility to ensure knowledge of, and compliance with, project-specific quality assurance requirements.

Essential Functions:

• Record product conformance to engineering and customer specifications through inspection and testing of rock, sand, concrete, and precast concrete products.
• Record and maintain cylinder break records in accordance to quality control manual and ACPA requirements.
• Inspect raw materials and fresh concrete while batching and after testing to confirm concrete qualities meet the finished product specifications.
• Ensure proper mix designs are programmed and used for each product type.
• Operate and maintain all quality testing equipment according to manuals.
• Maintain documentation verifying that production and testing equipment has been properly and accurately calibrated in accordance with local standards.
• Perform random inspection and documentation of wire cage fabrication.
• Perform pre-pour and post-pour inspections.
• At times, expected to perform duties and tasks outside of job description to meet business needs.

Requirements:

• Precast concrete QC certification from ACI Strength Testing: Preferred
• ACPA Quality School or NPCA PQS I or PCI Level I : Preferred
• Precast Concrete Experience or related field: 2 Years Preferred
• Ability to Read Blueprints and Drawings for Products: Required
• Understanding basic math skills: Required
• Work-related experience and/or training in skilled trades: Preferred
• Familiarity using tools and equipment associated with precast concrete production: Required
• Excel Experience: Preferred

TPG will train and support in the development to become certified in industry required QC certifications

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move products and supplies, up to 75 pounds.
