Job summary

Rio Tinto in the United States is seeking a QC Lab Tech to test samples in the Quality Control lab, handling raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products with ICP, GC, titration and Karl Fischer analyses. Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, you will ensure safety, enter data in the LQM system, calibrate instruments, train others, and support production with timely releases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline is required.
• Ten years of laboratory experience is desired.
• Advanced understanding of acid/base titrations, Karl Fischer moisture, manual titrations, particle size, sieve analysis, and programming of automatic titrators.
• Basic computer skills with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to read, understand and write technical documents (analytical procedures).
• Experience with Thermo LQM software and ICP instrumentation.
• Ability to calibrate ICP instruments and troubleshoot data.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of yourself and your team.
• Support lab operations through restocking supplies, cleaning glassware, disposing samples and managing sample retains.
• Enter laboratory data into the LQM database and run interim/final reports to release samples for production.
• Standardize equipment prior to use.
• Train others in routine test methodology.
• Analyze samples according to the prioritization plan.
• Serve as First Aid responder to plant personnel and assist PERT in emergencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
