Job summary

Rio Tinto is seeking a QC Lab Tech to perform accurate testing of samples received into the Quality Control laboratory, including raw materials, in-process samples and finished products. instrumentation includes ICP, GC, titrators, pH meters, ovens and balances.

You will report to the Quality Control Manager in a collaborative environment, ensuring safety, data integrity and timely release of samples for production. Training and cross-functional support are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in science discipline is required.
• Advanced understanding in acid/base titrations, Karl Fischer moisture, manual titrations, particle size, sieve analysis, and programming of automatic titrators.
• Experience with Thermo LQM software for logging, editing and cancelling samples.
• Expertise in ICP instruments including calibration and troubleshooting.
• Basic computer skills with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Ability to read, understand and write technical documents (analytical procedures).

• Commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
• Support efficient lab operation: restocking supplies, cleaning glassware, disposing samples, and managing sample retains.
• Enter data into the LQM database and run interim/final reports to release samples for production.
• Standardize equipment prior to use.
• Train others in routine test methodology.
• Analyze samples per the prioritization plan.
• Serve as First Aid responder and assist in emergencies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
