Job summary

Granite Construction Incorporated is seeking a Quality Control (QC) Engineer to assist in implementing the QC program on a federal construction project in Pajaro, CA. You will help ensure onsite and offsite operations meet quality standards and contract requirements through inspections, testing, and documentation.

You will support compliance with FAR 52.246-12, project drawings and submittals, and coordinate with laboratories, inspectors, and project personnel under the direction of the QC

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
  • CQM-C certification recommended; enroll within the first year if not current.
  • Working knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and OSHA preferred.
  • Two or more years of construction, engineering, inspection, or quality control experience preferred.
  • Federal construction experience and experience with QCS/RMS, eCMS, or similar owner-required systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining an effective QC system to ensure contract compliance using client-required software, including QCS/RMS, eCMS, or other designated systems.
  • Support implementation of the Three Phases of Control: Preparatory, Initial, and Follow-up.
  • Conduct specification reviews and assist with the development, review, and tracking of submittals.
  • Review test reports; maintain testing, submittal, and RFI logs; and prepare QC Daily Reports.
  • Perform field inspections to verify materials, workmanship, and construction methods comply with contract documents and approved submittals.
  • Identify deficiencies, support corrective actions, and verify completion.
  • Coordinate with testing laboratories, specialty inspectors, subcontractors, and project personnel.
  • Participate in Coordination and Mutual Understanding Meetings, audits, inspections, and quality reviews.
  • Support compliance with applicable safety, hazard identification, environmental, and sustainability requirements, including EM 385-1-1 and OSHA.
  • Maintain inspection records, test results, quality documentation, and compliance reports.
  • Assist project teams with interpretation of quality-related drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with job-site personnel, government representatives, subcontractors, testing companies, and technical staff.
  • Support project closeout, final inspections, and turnover documentation.

General Summary

This position is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the Quality Control (QC) program on a federal construction project. The QC Engineer helps ensure construction operations, both onsite and offsite, meet quality standards and contract-specific requirements through inspections, testing, documentation, and coordination. This role supports compliance with FAR 52.246-12, project drawings and specifications, approved submittals, and customer requirements under the direction of the QC Manager.

Essential Job Accountabilities
  • Quality Control Program Management

  • Project Oversight and Compliance
    • Perform field inspections to verify materials, workmanship, and construction methods comply with contract documents and approved submittals.

    • Coordinate with testing laboratories, specialty inspectors, subcontractors, and project personnel.
    • Participate in Coordination and Mutual Understanding Meetings, audits, inspections, and quality reviews.

  • Technical and Stakeholder Support
    • Maintain inspection records, test results, quality documentation, and compliance reports.

    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with job-site personnel, government representatives, subcontractors, testing companies, and technical staff.
    • Support project closeout, final inspections, and turnover documentation.
Education/Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field required.
  • CQM-C certification recommended. If not current or established, the employee should enroll in the course within the first year of employment.
  • Working knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and OSHA requirements preferred.
  • Work Experience
  • Two or more years of construction, engineering, inspection, or quality control experience preferred.
  • Federal construction experience and experience with QCS/RMS, eCMS, or similar owner-required systems preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and contract documents.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, methods, testing, inspection, and quality control practices.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and work effectively with project teams, customers, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and PDF viewing/editing software such as Bluebeam or Adobe.

Base Salary Range:

$73,034.00 - $109,552.00

Pay may vary based upon relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.
