Job description

Job Description: The Receiving Inspector is responsible for inspecting incoming parts, materials, and assemblies to verify conformance with established quality requirements, engineering drawings, and specifications. This position performs visual and dimensional inspections, conducts testing, and identifies defects or damage that may affect material quality or usability. The Receiving Inspector may perform minor repairs or adjustments when necessary to bring materials into conformance with specifications. This role supports manufacturing and quality operations by helping ensure materials meet requirements before being released for storage or use.

Primary Duties
  • Inspects incoming parts, materials, and assemblies for conformance with engineering drawings, specifications, and established quality requirements.
  • Performs visual, dimensional, and functional inspections using appropriate measuring instruments, gauges, and inspection equipment.
  • Identifies defects in materials, workmanship, dimensions, or condition and documents inspection findings as required.
  • Performs testing and minor repairs or adjustments to materials when necessary to meet established specifications.
  • Prepares materials for inspection, including removing packaging using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Verifies inspected materials are properly repackaged and prepared for storage, handling, or transport.
  • Assists with inspection and evaluation of purchased parts and materials to support quality and production requirements.
  • Follows established quality, safety, material handling, and inspection procedures.
  • Must be able to tolerate and work in conditions involving elevated noise levels and visible flashing lights as part of the normal work environment.
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Identifies and communicates material discrepancies or quality concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains organized inspection areas, tools, measuring equipment, and materials.
  • Supports material handling and movement activities associated with receiving and inspection.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Education and Experience Requirements
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Previous manufacturing, quality inspection, or receiving experience preferred.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection requirements.
  • Basic knowledge of inspection methods and precision measuring instruments.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to accurately enter or document inspection information.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify defects and dimensional discrepancies.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize work, manage priorities, and complete assignments with limited direction.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow established quality, safety, and material handling procedures.
Essential and Physical Functions
  • Frequently stands and walks while inspecting, preparing, handling, and moving materials.
  • Uses hands and fingers for fine and gross manipulation when operating tools, measuring instruments, and inspection equipment.
  • Visually examines parts and materials to identify defects, damage, and dimensional or workmanship concerns.
  • Frequently bends, reaches, stoops, and performs other physical movements necessary to access and inspect materials.
  • Lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls parts, materials, packaging, and inspection equipment as required.
  • Maintains concentration and attention to detail while performing repetitive visual and dimensional inspections.
Work Environment

Performs work primarily on-site in receiving, warehouse, manufacturing, and inspection areas. Regularly works near moving mechanical equipment and material-handling activities. May be exposed to elevated noise levels, vibration, dust, and varying temperatures associated with a manufacturing environment. Uses hand and power tools as necessary to prepare materials for inspection. Uses required personal protective equipment and follows applicable safety procedures. Regularly interacts and works cooperatively with receiving, quality, manufacturing, and material-handling personnel. This role is classified as a Safety Sensitive Position, requiring heightened awareness and adherence to all safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure a secure work environment.
