Job summary

The Hershey Company is seeking a QA Technician – Pest Control to manage Integrated Pest Management across our QRC locations. This role includes applying pesticides, inspecting facilities, and ensuring compliance with sanitation standards. Ideal candidates will hold a relevant associate degree and have hands-on experience in pest control practices, along with the required certifications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years experience as a QA Technician.
  • Must possess PA Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certificate.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing plants is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job description

Job Location: Technical Center

Summary:

The QA Technician – Pest Control is responsible for executing Hershey’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) system at all Hershey QRC locations, including both insect, rodent, and vegetation control.Locations include manufacturing plants, office complexes, storage facilities, visitor center, and exterior grounds.Technician is required to travel to various sites and work independently in those areas.The technician will need to have a flexible work schedule (i.e. weekends, holidays, alternate shifts).

Scope of Responsibility:

  • Apply pesticides in accordance to the label / regulations.Maintain detailed records of all applications and create reports for facilities serviced.
  • Respond to service calls, investigate pest control issues, complete IPM inspections and assist with implementing corrective actions.
  • Maintain pest control equipment to assure calibration to achieve operational target.
  • Keep abreast of changes in regulations.
  • Participate in manufacturing plant GMP/sanitation, review results and corrective actions with facility leadership.
  • Develop knowledge of new tools in the IPM field and identify how they can be utilized to enhance Hershey’s program.
  • Participate in and/or lead special assignments, task teams, or project teams.
  • Eliminating vegetative pest harborage points (i.e. cutting vegetation, filling in burrows; etc.) as needed.
  • Inspecting the roof and doors of the plant, providing a safe working environment by identifying potential areas for water leaks and pest entrance points.
  • Inspecting windows for missing screens and/or gaps in the screens which create potential areas for pest entrance points.
  • Inspecting shipping docks for potential areas for pest entrance points.
  • Monitoring of external grounds of the site to prevent pests from entering the facility.
  • Identifying and recording rodent, bird, and insect activities/ issues.Communicate to manufacturing plant leadership and facility leadership.
  • Inspecting and tracking of Structural Defects (holes, cracks, crevices, etc.); following up and providing status updates until repairs have been completed.
  • Inspection of food production equipment post clean inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Hershey area manufacturing plants and corporate office facilities a plus
  • Knowledge of sanitation programs
  • Confined space certified or training within the first 3 months
  • Fall protection certified or training within the first 3 months
  • Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus or Full-face respirator certified or pass medical physical within first 3 months
  • Obtain PA Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicator Category (20 Commodity & Space Fumigation) within the first 3 months

Minimum Requirements and Education:

  • Education/Experience – Associated of Arts in related field and minimum of 2+ years as a QA Technician or equivalent related experience.
  • Must possess a PA Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certificate (Certified in Category 11 Household Pest Control)
  • Valid Driver’s License is required
