Job summary

Penington Painting Company is seeking a full-time Quality Control Manager for its Arizona corporate office. You will ensure coatings meet AMPP/SSPC standards from surface prep through final coat, coordinating with field and project teams while maintaining rigorous QC documentation.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in coatings QC, AMPP CIP Level 1 or equivalent, and familiarity with DFT gauges, weather measurements, and MS Office. A valid driver’s license and background checks may apply.

Qualifications

• Must hold AMPP Coating Inspector Program CIP Level 1 or AMPP Concrete Coating Inspector (CCI) course.
• Detail-oriented with strong documentation discipline.
• Proficient with MS Office and environmental measurements.
• Experience with industrial or CRC coatings is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Inspect coatings and surface preparation to AMPP/SSPC standards.
• Document dry film thickness, environmental conditions, and coating systems per data sheets.
• Maintain QC plans, track punch items and non-conformances, and manage QC records.
• Support safety meetings and collaborate with field teams to uphold quality.

Penington Painting Company is a coatings contractor specializing in industrial and commercial coatings. We are responsible for coating preparation and application, such as Chemical Resistant Coatings (CRCs), on any required substrate (floors, walls, ceilings, and more) to meet the desired function of each project. About the role

You will make sure our coatings work meets specification and PPC's quality standards, from surface preparation through final coat, through inspection, documentation, and close coordination with the field and project teams.

Key responsibilities

Inspection

• Verify surface preparation meets specification and AMPP (SSPC) standards before coating.
• Measure and document dry film thickness (DFT) and confirm it meets specification.
• Monitor and record environmental conditions (dew point, ambient and surface temperature, relative humidity) within the application window.
• Confirm coating systems are applied per Sherwin-Williams product data sheets (coats, mil thickness, recoat windows).
• Coordinate mockups and test panels for owner and architect approval.

Planning and documentation

• Develop and maintain Quality Control Plans, including inspection and hold points, with the project team.
• Track punch items, rework, and non-conformances through to resolution.
• Maintain QC documentation: daily reports, dated photos, and closeout QC records.

Team and safety

• Participate in jobsite safety, including safety meetings and walks, and support the Safety Manager where QC and safety overlap.
• Collaborate with the project and production teams to keep quality on track.

The ideal candidate

is detail-oriented and standards-driven, with strong documentation habits, solid communication, and the credibility to work directly with foremen and crews in the field.

Experience

• Coatings or industrial construction QC experience: 3+ years (preferred)

Position Requirements

Requirements

• At minimum, AMPP Coating Inspector Program (CIP) Level 1 (formerly NACE CIP Level 1) or the AMPP Concrete Coating Inspector (CCI) course.
• Familiarity with DFT gauges and environmental measurement tools.
• Demonstrated attention to detail and documentation discipline.
• Proficiency with MS Office.
• OSHA 10 certification is preferred.
• Experience with industrial or CRC coatings is a plus.
• Valid driver's license, and the ability to meet client badging, background, and drug-screening requirements.
