Job summary

Gulf Copper LLC, a Galveston, Texas-based marine repair and construction firm, seeks a Quality Control Inspector to support inspections, approvals, and reporting across shipyard projects. The role emphasizes adherence to specifications, safety, and timely communication with production and clients.

Applicants should have NDT/NACE credentials where possible, plus hands-on experience in maritime fabrication or oil & gas environments. Open-air yards and on-board sites are typical work settings.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED is preferred.
  • 3–4 years of Quality Control / NDT / NACE experience in maritime or oil & gas preferred.
  • 5–6 years of Welding/Fitting experience in a fabrication shop or shipyard preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Quality Control/Assurance and Field Inspections, and prepares Inspection Reports and Sketches.
  • Completes and documents inspection results by writing reports and logs; summarizes re-work and waste.
  • Maintains quality standards by approving incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products; records quality results.
  • Approves incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducts visual and measurement tests; rejects and returns unacceptable materials.
  • Approves in-process production by confirming specifications; conducts visual and measurement tests; communicates required adjustments to production supervisor.
  • Approves finished products by confirming specifications; conducts visual and measurement tests; returns products for re-work; confirms re-work.
  • Coordinate with Production, Customers and Third-Party Surveyors as required.
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Required Education & Experience:
  1. High School/GEDpreferred.
  2. Threeto fouryears of Quality Control / NDT/ NDE and/or NACEexperience in amaritime or oil & gas industry preferred.
  3. Or5-6 years of Welding/Fitting experience in a Fabrication Shop or Shipyard.
Working Conditions:
  1. Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in anoffice-controlledenvironment.
  2. Must wear hearing, eye, headprotectionand proper PPE.
  3. Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved.
  4. Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights while wearing fall prevention equipment.
  5. Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials.
  6. Aboard ships,rigs,both on and offshore as well asinconfined spaces.
  7. The workmayrequire standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over,crouching,and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.
Necessary Equipment Operation:
  1. Generalinspectionmeasuring and testing equipment.
  2. General Computer skills
Special Skills:
  1. NDE/ NDT and/or NACESkillspreferred.
  2. Level 2 VT, PT and MT certifications
  3. Knowledge of WeldingMaterials and Codes/Specificationspreferred.
  4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and understand codes/specifications, sketches, and technical manuals.
  5. Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures.
  6. Strong Organizational skills.
  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
