Job Description

The Materials Testing Laboratory Technician is the quality testing support for the Receiving and Production areas to help them assure that the material that is received, or that is being used, meets internal, customer and regulatory requirements. The technician also identifies materials that do not conform to the required specifications and notifies the appropriate personnel so that the required actions are taken. The technician also helps test or evaluate product/parts for investigation purposes in order to determine root causes and actions to be taken.


Principle Accountabilities:


The Materials Testing Laboratory Technician is responsible for receiving test requests, scheduling jobs and creating work orders. The technician is also responsible for performing daily testing and reporting the results of the testing to the appropriate personnel, while also accepting/rejecting product based on the test results obtained and the requirements of the applicable specifications. The technician will be required to perform other duties as required and requested by management.


Training Requirements:



  • Introduction training

  • Training on the Laboratory Test Procedures (LTPs)

  • Training on the Quality Procedures required by QP-7531

  • Training on customer's specifications, as required.


Working Conditions:


Working conditions are that of a laboratory monitored environment that require the use of laboratory cotes and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Experience/Education/Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Experience with laboratory testing

  • Experience in use of Testing Laboratory equipment such as analytical balances, furnaces, fume hoods, hardness testers, hot plates, etc.

  • Experience with measuring devices, micrometers, calipers, etc.

  • Experience with band saws, wet saws and other small cutting equipment.

  • Quality experience desirable.

  • Experience with use of chemicals and SDSs.

  • Able to carry a weight of 25 pounds.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Good reading comprehension.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Experience with use of universal test frames for tension and compression is a plus.

  • Experience with use of Thermo-Mechanical Analyzers (TMA) a plus.

  • Experience with different computer software, and interfaces, Costpoint, MLS, Microsoft Office etc.
