Our rail services division also operates three short line railroads and a dozen contract switching and transloading sites.

Position Summary: The QA Inspector performs In-Bound, In-Process & Final Inspections of Freight cars and/or Tank cars. The role ensures inspections and maintenance are conducted safely and in accordance with owner, regulatory, and industry standards. The onsite QA Manager, Facility Manager, or their designee will approve and qualify the QA Inspector.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform Incoming, In-Process, and Final Inspections on Railcars adhering to FRA, AAR, and Client specifications.
  • Collaborate with Facility Manager, QA Supervisor, or Production Supervisor on QA concerns affecting railcar quality.
  • Make disposition decisions for non-conforming equipment, subject to verification by the QA Supervisor.
  • Follow safety protocols in compliance with OSHA and company policies.
  • Complete QA M-1003 Program and Manual training within 90 days of employment.
  • Obtain certification per the Company Inspection Training Matrix within up to 2 years.
  • Must be qualified as Railcar Repair Technician III.
  • Knowledgeable of AAR Repair procedures and requirements.
  • Integrate quality functions into a multi-disciplinary work environment.
  • Support multiple facilities as needed, adhering to budgets, schedules, and performance standards.
  • Conduct facility-level Quality Program and customer specification training for staff.
  • Mentor QA Inspector candidates according to the Training Matrix.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills and practical problem-solving ability.
  • Pass fitness for duty examination, pre-employment physical, and drug screens.
Physical Demands & Work Environment

Work involves both indoor and outdoor environments, often in challenging conditions such as heat, cold, wet, dry, or dusty settings. Tasks are physically demanding, requiring proper body mechanics, lifting, and use of tools like impact wrenches, grinders, and welding equipment upon qualification. Ability to work in confined spaces and wear PPE as needed is essential.
