payabl. is seeking an experienced QA Engineer to join our Banking team, focusing on Core Banking and Payment platforms. This hands-on role combines automated and manual testing with emphasis on API, backend, integration, and transaction flows.

Location options include remote from Poland, Portugal, or Cyprus onsite relocation support. Reporting to Team Lead. You will own QA activities, build robust test suites, and help instill a strong quality mindset across the team.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform end-to-end functional, integration, regression, and system testing for Core Banking and Payment platforms.
• Build and maintain automated tests using Python (PyTest) and Cypress/Playwright.
• Create and execute test cases for new feature implementations.
• Participate in refinement sessions and provide QA input early in the development lifecycle.
• Prepare detailed test plans, test scenarios, test cases, test data, and coverage.
• Perform API and backend testing, ensuring correct system behaviour and data integrity.
• Conduct manual testing when needed to ensure full test coverage.
• Analyse logs and system flows to identify issues and understand root causes.
• Identify, document, and track defects with clear evidence and reproducible steps.
• Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to improve quality and delivery.
• Contribute to delivering stable and reliable software in a complex banking environment.

The role is about:

We are looking for an experienced QA Engineer to join our Banking team and help establish and strengthen dedicated QA practices within the team.

As a QA Engineer – Banking , you will help ensure the quality and reliability of our Core Banking and Payment platforms . You will work across automated and manual testing, with a strong focus on API, backend, integration, and transaction flows .

This is a hands-on QA Automation role where you will help identify issues early, improve test coverage, and make sure our banking services are stable, reliable, and ready for our customers .

We are looking for someone who can take ownership of QA activities, understand systems deeply, and contribute to building a strong quality mindset within the team.

Location: Remote from Poland, Portugal (Contractor arrangement) or Cyprus Onsite (Relocation support provided)

What you will do:

• Perform end-to-end functional, integration, regression, and system testing for Core Banking and Payment platforms.

• Create and execute test cases based on new feature implementations.

• Perform API and backend testing , ensuring correct system behaviour and data integrity.

What we need:

• 3+ years of QA automation experience .
• Strong hands-on experience with:

• Strong experience in functional and integration testing .
• Experience with API and backend testing .
• Experience testing payment or transaction flows and validating system behaviour and data integrity.
• Good understanding of payment processing, balances, and transaction data .
• Ability to design and structure clear, maintainable test cases .
• Strong debugging skills, including working with logs and system behaviour .
• Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical topics clearly.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, evolving environments .

Nice to have:

• Experience in Core Banking, Payments, FinTech, or e-commerce platforms .
• Experience with EUR and/or GBP payment flows .
• Understanding of ledger and balance management .
• Experience with transaction flows or distributed systems .
• Exposure to cloud-based environments or microservices architectures .
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Git .

Hiring Process:

• Step 1 – Thinking in Action (40 minutes) Your first conversation will be with our Talent Acquisition team. We'll explore your background, career journey, motivations, and overall fit for the role. As part of this discussion, you'll also complete a short technical screening that will be reviewed by our engineering team. This stage helps us understand both your experience and how you approach technical challenges.
• Step 2 – Build in Production (60–90 minutes) Meet with the Team Lead and technical experts for a practical assessment. Depending on the role, this may involve a live coding exercise or a real-world scenario designed to evaluate your technical skills, problem-solving approach, and ability to work through challenges similar to those faced by our teams.
• Step 3 – Final Interview (45 minutes) The final stage is a group interview with senior members of our Technology squad, which may include the CTO, CPO, and Team Lead. Together, we'll discuss team fit, collaboration style, expectations from both sides, and any remaining questions about the role, team, or technology domain. This is also an opportunity for you to learn more about our culture and ways of working.
