Job summary

Bakelite Synthetics in the United States is seeking a QA Chemist to oversee QA/QC testing of resins and chemical products. You will train operators, calibrate equipment, and drive continuous improvement while upholding safety and environmental standards.

You’ll work with a multifunctional team, review data in the ERP system, and support the Quality and Environmental departments. This role emphasizes hands-on testing, documentation, and adherence to regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • 4 years of laboratory or environmental experience, or an Associate degree with 2 years of laboratory/environmental experience, or a BS degree in science.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software. Word – drafting documents & procedures. Excel – reviewing, sorting and analyzing data, working w/ charts. Outlook – scheduling & email. PowerPoint – presentation creation/editing.
  • Experience working as part of a multifunctional team and performing work with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Willing and able to work in manufacturing plant setting.
  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations.
  • Day shift with willingness to work overtime and on weekends, if necessary (limited).

Responsibilities

  • Perform QA/QC testing on Resins and other chemical products.
  • Train operators on applicable analytical methods; and assist them in working toward continuous improvement.
  • Perform equipment calibration & maintenance for the production and QA labs.
  • Maintain and operate advanced analytical equipment including a GC.
  • Use statistical and quality tools to help meet or exceed quality goals.
  • Review product and raw material quality data in the ERP system (M3/Infor) for accuracy.
  • Package and ship samples per DOT and IATA requirements.
  • Support the Quality and Environmental departments.
  • Manage the Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program.
  • Manage the stormwater testing program.
  • Manage universal hazardous waste program.
  • Adhere to all plant health, safety, and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures by wearing necessary PPE.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like?

What is Needed to be Successful in this Role (Required Skills/Abilities):
  • Include the necessary and preferred job requirements of the role

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry.
  • Strong knowledge and skills in organic and polymer chemistry.
  • Two (2) years or more working in an industrial / manufacturing environment.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting analytical equipment including titrators, GC, gas analyzers.
  • Environmental knowledge of Air permits, stormwater permits, SARA, SPCC, RMP.
