Job summary

The Marzetti Company is seeking a QA Analyst to maintain product quality, collect data, monitor processes and ensure GMP compliance in our Clive, IA facility.

Shift: Monday–Thursday 2:35p–1:15a with OT as needed; collaborate with team to uphold safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Requirements: High School diploma or GED; experience in QA or QC in food manufacturing is a plus; bachelor’s degree in food science, biology or related science preferred.

The position of QA Analyst Maintains and ensures quality of products, collects data, monitors products and processes and GMP compliance.

Shift: Monday - Thursday 2:35p - 1:15a with OT as required.

  • Works respectfully with all team members to ensure the Safety, Quality, production and support of our products and goals on a daily basis.

  • Actively participates in Marzetti Operational Excellence, special projects or tasks, and modification programs as needed with prior approval.
  • Actively participates in department/shift/team meetings and is involved with improvement/resolutions & follow-up.

  • Maintains highest standard of Safety for all functions on an ongoing basis and ensures compliance for self and others to OSHA standards.
  • Performs daily inspection of all PPE required including but not limited to SLIP-RESISTANT/STEEL-TOED SHOES, safety glasses, gloves, shields and aprons to ensure good overall condition of items that provide optimal personal safety & protection while working in the facility.
  • Successfully acquires and maintains Lock Out-Tag Out Certification for machine and safely performs all functions in accordance to OHSA and company requirements and standards.
  • Performs daily inspection of power equipment with proper documentation.
  • As a member of the T. Marzetti Company, completes his/her Behavior Based Safety Observations (BBSO), corrects issues when identified, and participates in problem solving.

  • As a member of the T. Marzetti Company, completes his/her Behavior Based Quality observations (BBQs), corrects issues when identified and participates in problem solving.
  • Ensures compliance to quality, food safety / Food Safety Plan, FSMA, Food Defense, 5S, OSHA and other support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
  • Communicates any concerns related to product safety, integrity, quality and legality to management or to the confidential hotline if the need for anonymity is necessary.

  • Practices integrity, respect, accountability, continuous improvement and positive interactions with all Team Members and visitors.
  • Collect samples of ingredients, products and/or packages and monitor and test according to established procedures.
  • Inspect and swab equipment/environment. Communicate any issues and/or concerns to appropriate technical services or operations team.
  • Monitor processes to assure they are operating consistently.
  • Document neatly and precisely all results.
  • Label and maintain samples of ingredients or products for retains or shelf life monitoring.
  • Identifying potential hazards and solutions to issues.
  • Addressing customer complaints and solution.
  • Organize collected data for management review (charts, graphs, tables, etc.)
  • Maintain lab area and equipment in orderly fashion.
  • Communicate inconsistent results or observations to management immediately.
  • Maintains standard production quantities/rates for each product.
  • Recommend methods for improving any processes to reduce waste, improve productivity, improve quality and/or consistency.
  • Accurately weigh colors, flavors and other small ingredients.
  • Test R&D samples for Food Safety and specification development.
  • Assist production when necessary.
  • Regular Attendance is in accordance with Company attendance policy and procedures.
  • Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned by Management
  • Complete initial/annual training to ensure the individual is properly qualified (QI) to perform all required job tasks as outlined in training programs/records.
Qualifications
  • Experience is a plus in understanding quality assurance and/or control processes, preferably in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Basic math, science, analytical, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to efficiently organize work, tasks and time.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively – verbally & written – to and work well with Team, Management, Customers, Vendors and visitors and to follow and give accurate detailed instruction (written & oral).
  • Ability to read & interpret written & verbal direction while working in a safe, effective & productive manner within a fast-paced environment.
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in food science, biology or science preferred.
Working Conditions/Environment

Works in a laboratory and manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read, sit, stand, walk, climb, crouch, lift, reach, grasp and bend while moving about the facility. Requires some lifting of moderately heavy items such as test equipment and product cases. Must be able to stand for an 8–10-hour shift (sometimes longer) with regular breaks while performing repetitive tasks. May be required to work overtime and / or weekends as needed. The employee may be exposed to non-ambient temperatures, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, moving parts / equipment, and handling hazardous testing and sanitation chemicals. The Noise level in the lab is moderate and loud in the plant. Ear protection, eye/face protection, hair/beard nets, steel-toed/slip-resistant shoes, and gloves are required as necessary in accordance with company GMP and safety standards.
