Persistent Systems is seeking an experienced AI/ML Engineer to design, develop, and deploy production-grade AI/LLM-powered applications using Python. You will work across engineering, data, and product teams to build scalable backend services and RESTful APIs, leveraging LLMs, RAG, and modern MLOps practices.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience overall, with 5+ years in software development, strong Python skills, and a track record delivering AI/ML systems to production.

About Position:

We are looking for an experienced AI/ML Engineer with 10+ years of overall experience and 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong hands‑on expertise in Python. The ideal candidate will have experience building and deploying production‑grade AI/ML and LLM‑powered applications, with practical knowledge of the AI Development Life Cycle (AIDLC). You will work across engineering, data, and product teams to develop scalable AI solutions leveraging LLMs, RAG, agentic frameworks, cloud platforms, and modern MLOps/LLMOps practices.

What You’ll Do:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable AI/ML and LLM‑powered applications using Python.
• Build LLM-based solutions using prompt engineering, Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG), and model provider APIs.
• Develop and integrate scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.
• Take AI/ML solutions through the complete AI Development Life Cycle (AIDLC), including data handling, experimentation, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing support.
• Build and integrate solutions using LLM and agentic frameworks, vector databases, and embedding‑based retrieval approaches.
• Deploy and operate applications using Docker, cloud platforms, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Apply MLOps/LLMOps practices for model management, evaluation, monitoring, and observability.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, data, and product teams to translate requirements into reliable and scalable AI solutions.
• Contribute to model evaluation, responsible AI practices, safety guardrails, and production observability.
• Support AI/ML systems throughout their production lifecycle, including troubleshooting, optimization, and continuous improvement.

Expertise You’ll Bring

• 10+ years of overall experience, including 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong and current Python expertise.
• Demonstrated experience delivering at least one AI/ML or LLM‑powered system to production and supporting it throughout its lifecycle.
• Practical understanding of the AI Development Life Cycle (AIDLC), including data handling, experimentation, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
• Hands‑on experience with LLM application development, including prompt engineering, RAG, and integration with major model‑provider APIs.
• Strong experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and developing scalable backend services.
• Working knowledge of AWS, GCP, or Azure, along with Docker/containerization.
• Solid understanding of Git and CI/CD workflows.
• Experience with agentic and orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or multi‑agent frameworks is preferred.
• Familiarity with vector databases and retrieval technologies such as Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector, and FAISS is preferred.
• Exposure to MLOps/LLMOps tooling, including MLflow, Weights & Biases, model registries, and feature stores.
• Experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure‑as‑code is preferred.
• Understanding of model evaluation, responsible AI, safety guardrails, and observability for LLM‑based systems.
• Experience with data pipelines and streaming technologies such as Kafka, Spark, or Airflow is an advantage.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, data, and product teams.
