Job Description: Public Works Streets Maintenance Worker I

Position Overview

This position provides labor services to Public Works Maintenance, working under immediate supervision within work crews. The City does not sponsor employment authorization.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform manual labor and operate hand tools to support equipment operations
• Assist in snow removal and pretreating streets, sidewalks, and bridges
• Maintain streets, rights of way, and curbs/gutters using construction and maintenance materials in accordance with city standards
• Adhere to city policies, procedures, and safety practices
• Attend work regularly at scheduled times
• Support process improvement initiatives
• Perform related duties as required

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent experience in asphalt, carpentry, concrete, forestry, traffic signage, construction, sewer work, or related fields
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations

Licenses & Certifications

• Valid Driver's License Class A with tanker and air brake endorsements within one year of hire
• Ability to work overtime, flexible shifts, and respond to emergencies within 30 minutes

Work Schedule & Compensation

Monday - Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Starting pay is $21.46/hr, with step increases on anniversary. The city values experience, but all new hires begin at the same rate.
