Summary

Operates heavy equipment such as knuckle-boom trucks, backhoes, sweepers, end loaders, and dump trucks at a skilled level. Uses these skills to assist in debris removal for the City of Tupelo.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate the knuckle-boom truck to remove debris generated by citizens or storms.
  • Operate a backhoe or end loader to remove debris.
  • Operate machinery to load debris trucks safely for transport and disposal.
  • Exercise extreme caution near overhead utility lines and overhanging branches.
  • Load and transport pipes and equipment in the truck bed.
  • Operate chainsaws safely in various storm-related situations.
  • Follow written and oral instructions to adhere to daily routing plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Duties

Supervises up to one worker.

Qualification Requirements

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED.

Language Skills

Ability to understand and follow instructions; communicate clearly with the public.

Reasoning Ability

Certifications, Licenses, and Registration

Valid Mississippi Class B commercial driver’s license.

Physical Demands
  • Regularly talk, hear, and operate tools and equipment.
  • Frequently stand, walk, sit, crouch, climb, balance, kneel, reach.
  • Lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Vision requirements include near, peripheral, distance, and color vision.
Work Environment
  • Work near moving equipment, occasionally exposed to electrical shocks, loud noises, extreme weather, fumes, particles, vibration, and chemicals.
