Job description

Purina Sales Representative - Cattle / Equine (Finance)

We're hiring a Feed Sales Representative - Purina Animal Nutrition to focus primarily on Cattle and Equine feed sales with our partner co-op in Walthall County, MS, and the surrounding area. This role involves selling feed and related products to optimize market share and savings, improve efficiency, and support the cooperative/dealer's mission and goals.

This is a remote (virtual) field-based sales position that must be located within the geographic territory of Southern Mississippi and Southern Louisiana.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Calling on animal owners to evaluate existing feeding programs, and to recommend and assist with nutritional programs.
  • Selling and consulting at the farm gate (up to 25 farm calls per week) with the goal of selling Purina products and programs, growing sales, and increasing market share. This includes developing new prospects and making cold calls.
  • Organizing and conducting educational meetings/events for 4H clubs, saddle clubs, vets, trainers, and lifestyle show clubs to enhance Purina's brand image, sell products, and build store traffic with local co-ops/dealers.
Experience/Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or a related field is strongly desired.
  • Candidates with a pending bachelor's degree or proven sales and industry experience may be considered.
  • Previous sales experience is highly desired.
  • Basic knowledge of making nutritional and feeding recommendations to animal owners.
  • Understanding of husbandry, current management practices, nutritional guidelines, and industry knowledge. Experience with cattle and horses is preferred.
  • Ability to provide accurate feeding and management recommendations.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office, and ability to learn ration balancing software (HerdSmart), Salesforce, etc.
  • Previous professional experience with Cattle, Dairy, Equine, or Lifestyle animals.
Competencies & Other Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong organization and time management.
  • High internal drive, relationship-building skills, and leadership qualities.
  • Ability and motivation to make multiple daily sales calls.
  • Experience in on-farm interactions in all weather conditions.
  • Networking skills within the industry to foster relationships and generate additional business.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Solid public speaking skills.
Travel:
  • Approximately 15% overnight travel, plus daily travel within the assigned geography.
Compensation:

This sales role offers a target mix of base salary plus commission, with base salary generally ranging from $53,000 to $65,000, depending on experience and tenure. The target bonus is $10,000. Candidates can expect to be hired near the middle of this range.
