Job description

Join to apply for the Purina Cattle Feed Sales role at Land O'Lakes, Inc.

We're hiring a Feed Sales Representative with Purina Animal Nutrition to focus on cattle, equine, and lifestyle feed sales in the Roseburg, Oregon area. This remote (virtual) field-based sales position requires residence within 40 miles of Roseburg, OR.

Your Responsibilities Will Include
  1. Calling on animal owners (primarily cattle, lifestyle, and equine customers) to evaluate feeding programs and recommend nutritional solutions.
  2. Selling and consulting at the farm gate (up to 25 farm calls per week) to grow sales and market share, including developing new prospects and cold calling.
  3. Organizing and conducting educational meetings/events for local clubs, vets, trainers, and other groups to promote Purina's brand, sell products, and increase store traffic.
Experience/Education
  1. Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related field preferred; candidates with pending degrees or relevant industry experience will be considered.
  2. Previous sales experience is highly desired.
  3. Ability to make nutritional and feeding recommendations based on animal husbandry, management practices, and industry standards.
  4. Understanding of husbandry, current management practices, and nutritional guidelines.
  5. Proficiency in MS Office and ability to learn ration balancing software (HerdSmart), Salesforce, etc.
  6. Strong background with cattle, dairy, equine, or lifestyle animals.

  1. Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
  2. High internal drive, relationship-building skills, and leadership qualities.
  3. Ability to make multiple daily sales calls and conduct farm visits in all weather conditions.
  4. Networking skills to foster industry relationships.
  5. Physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  6. Public speaking skills.
Travel

Approximately 15% overnight travel, plus daily travel within the assigned territory.

Compensation

This sales role offers a base salary plus commission, with a typical range of $60,000 - $70,000, plus a target bonus of $15,000. Hiring salary usually falls near the middle of the range.
