Job summary

Ultium Cells LLC seeks a senior procurement leader to develop and execute sourcing strategies for strategic materials, equipment, and services across the supply base. The role requires building a strong supplier network and driving best-in-class cost and risk management.

You will lead a cross-functional team, manage supplier relationships, and drive cost optimization while ensuring supply continuity in a high-velocity manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS + 5 years of experience; master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Experience in contract drafting, redlining, and working cross functionally with legal.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify creative solutions in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to engage and present to Senior Executives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies based on trends and establish a competitive supply base.
  • Purchase of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling and/or services.
  • Develop commodity strategy, sourcing/negotiations, budget execution.
  • Optimize supply performance with benchmarking, cost and value-chain analysis, negotiations.
  • Trade off imperatives with cross-functional partners, RFQ management, procure to pay, logistics.
  • Drive for winning outcomes aligned with the business mission.
  • Develop and manage supplier relationships.
  • Lead and respond to critical supply chain issues with contingency solutions.
  • Provide proactive communication on issues affecting purchasing, logistics or supply chain.
  • Develop protection of supply and contingency plans.
  • Set strategy and lead a team to meet objectives.
  • Oversee day-to-day team activities, goals and performance reviews.

Ultium Cells, LLC. is a joint venture Lithium-ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high-technology plant is a new construction that has the latest in battery cell manufacturing technology. This $2.3 billion investment is among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells produces battery cells for General Motors’ North American electric vehicle applications.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies based on business, market, and technology trends and establish strong and competitive supply base
  • Responsible for purchase of all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling and/or services
  • Responsible for actively participating in development of commodity strategy, sourcing/negotiations, budget execution.
  • Optimize supply performance by analyzing and applying appropriate tools including benchmarking, cost and value chain analysis, negotiations, supply chain analysis
  • Work closely with cross functional partners internally and externally to trade off imperatives and identify creative solutions, including RFQ management, procure to pay, order fulfillment, customer satisfaction, and supplier relationship management
  • Drive for winning outcomes that are focused on the mission of the business
  • Develop and manage great supplier relationships
  • Lead and respond to critical supply chain issues and provide contingency solutions to mitigate supply chain risk or logistics disruptions for inbound and outbound logistics.
  • Provide pro-active communication on issues that can impact purchasing, logistics or the supply chain
  • Develop protection of supply and contingency plans
  • Ability to set a strategy and lead a team of individuals to a common goal that meets the overall objectives of the company
  • Responsible for the day-to-day activities of the team, set goals and performance review of the team
Education
  • BA/BS + 5 years of experience; master’s degree or MBA preferred

  • Knowledge of procurement and materials software, as well as MS software applications and deep functioning knowledge of SAP
  • Experience managing and negotiating commercial issues with suppliers and assessing customer satisfaction
  • Ability to prioritize assignments/projects and multi-task within time constraints
