This role develops supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, manages inventory strategies, and works cross-functionally with engineering, production, and finance to support operational goals and cost optimization initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance or a related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills with proven experience managing suppliers and contracts.
  • Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems and inventory management principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience in manufacturing or engineered-to-order environments.
  • Knowledge of metal, fabrication, or industrial equipment procurement.
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute purchasing strategies aligned with production schedules and cost objectives.
  • Source, evaluate, and manage suppliers for raw materials, fabricated components, and services.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, contracts, and long-term supply agreements to achieve cost savings and reliability.
  • Issue and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies.
  • Monitor supplier performance related to quality, delivery, and responsiveness; address corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams on new product introductions, material changes, and supplier selection.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support production while minimizing excess and obsolete stock.
  • Track market conditions, material availability, and pricing trends to support forecasting and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure procurement activities meet internal controls, audit requirements, and ethical sourcing standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate purchasing or procurement staff (if applicable).
  • Generate and analyze purchasing metrics, cost reports, and supplier data to support leadership decision-making.
