Summary Of The Job
The Purchasing Agent/Inventory Control Manager will oversee the purchasing and inventory control department's activities and manage the inventory of materials for the company. Oversees the Purchasing and Shipping/Receiving Departments. Success in this role requires adaptability, strong organizational and time management skills, teamwork, and pride in your work.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Operation hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Onsite required.
Essential Functions
- Research, Sources and Purchases supplies, materials, and parts for the company.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, prices, buyers, and delivery conditions to anticipate future material availability; directs purchasing programs accordingly.
- Develops and maintains inventory databases for supplies and materials used.
- Negotiates and completes contracts with vendors for optimal cost and delivery times.
- Reviews purchase orders and contracts for compliance with company and departmental policies.
- Collaborates with sales, customer service, and logistics departments to maximize efficiency in the purchasing and inventory control departments.
- Manages communication with suppliers to resolve problems that may arise regarding delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale.
- Sets authorization limits for purchasing staff.
- Purchases large and complex items.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures related to purchasing, inventory control and the supply chain to ensure quality and safety and with a goal to maximize efficiency and optimize workflow. Implements subsequent changes to processes as needed.
- Assesses the need for material-handling equipment and staffing; makes recommendations to ensure efficient loading, unloading, movement, and storage of materials.
- Participates as an advisory member of the product development team, providing information and guidance on availability and cost of supplies and materials.
- Acts as part of the team coordinating engineering changes, product line extension, or new product launches to ensure timely and orderly material and production flow transitions.
- Monitors the performance of suppliers, assessing their ability to meet quality and delivery requirements; identifies and qualifies new suppliers in collaboration with other departments.
- Conduct vendor evaluations per the Quality Management System.
Supervisory Responsibility
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new team members. Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of assigned departments. Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. Handles discipline of employees in accordance with company policy.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, as well as inventory software.
Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field with coursework in purchasing and/or inventory control management, or equivalent applied work experience in the field.
- At least five years of procurement or purchasing experience required, with supervisory experience preferred.
- Examples of relevant skills and expertise include: Supply Management, Tracking Budget Expenses, Vendor Relationships, Customer Service, Manufacturing Methods/Procedures
- Computer proficiency and knowledge of MS Office/Outlook required.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems and ISO 13485 regulations is also preferred.
- Physical Demands: Requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
