Job description

Responsibilities

Meritage Homes is seeking a Purchasing Agent to support our Houston Division. The role involves:

  • Researching and resolving Vendor disputes, including product or pricing issues, invoice and contract discrepancies, and coordinating pricing adjustments as needed.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with trade partners to meet bidding and production requirements.
  • Collaborating with departments such as land development, construction, marketing, finance, and design to meet internal goals and deadlines.
  • Communicating product changes to Sales, Construction, and Subcontractors.
  • Initiating bid events with subcontractors, analyzing bids, and preparing contract confirmations and backup documentation for audit compliance.
  • Assisting in base cost and option price analysis.
  • Reviewing house budgets to verify accurate base house and margin costs.
  • Participating in end-of-month cost-off processes to ensure accurate accruals for closings.
Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience in Purchasing or the Construction Industry, preferably in residential homebuilding.
  • 4-year degree or equivalent experience.
  • Exceptional skills in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with JD Edwards, Enterprise One, and BuildPro is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents is advantageous.
  • Proactive attitude and a go-getter mindset.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Professional communication skills for addressing questions and concerns.
