Qualifications

  • 3+ years of purchasing in heavy industrial construction or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Knowledge of Heavy Construction Industry.
  • Proficient with US customary units (ft, in, lbs, psi).
  • Experience with purchase orders through bidder prequalification, bids, award, and supplier performance.
  • Ability to read and interpret contracts and material specifications.
  • Proficient in MS Office and ERP/purchasing systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process purchase orders and change notices.
  • Review PO claims and contracts for conformance to guidelines.
  • Issue purchase orders/contracts/agreements.
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers to resolve project issues and monitor market conditions.
  • Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine material availability.
  • Coordinate with Project Management on material requisitions for purchases.
  • Ensure compliance with Purchasing Policies.
  • Develop new supply sources where vendors are inadequate.
  • Check requisitions for proper approvals and accounts.
  • Coordinate with Accounting, Finance and Project Controls.
  • Work with Receiving to ensure timely supplies.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for all purchasing and tracking of heavy industrial construction materials for all divisions of the company.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Responsible for reviewing and processing purchase orders and change notices
  • Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company and client guidelines
  • Issue purchase orders/contracts/agreements
  • Maintain relationships with supplier personnel in order to resolve specific project supplier problems, to be aware of current market conditions, and to inform the suppliers, when necessary, of the overall project requirements
  • Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability
  • Communicates with Project Management to assist, guide, and plan the processing of material requisitions for all project purchases
  • Understand Purchasing Policies and ensure compliance
  • Develop new supply sources where vendors are inadequate
  • Check requisitions for appropriate approval and account numbers
  • Keep close communication with corporate service departments such as Accounting, Finance and Project Controls
  • Work closely with Receiving Department to ensure proper supplies arrived
  • Understand the materials required for specific jobs, and readily available in the U.S.
  • Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed or assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 3 yrs. experience in purchasing of heavy industrial construction materials or equivalent hand-on field experience
  • Knowledge in Heavy Construction Industry
  • Proficient in use of US customary unit’s ft., in., lbs., psi, etc.
  • Knowledge of material requirements as they pertain to standards of construction
  • Proficiency and experience of purchase orders through the several steps of bidder prequalification, compilation of bid requests, receipt of bids, bid evaluation, award, monitoring the performance of suppliers and buyers, back charge procedures, resolution of claims and disputes, and other such related steps
  • Ability to read and interpret contracts and material specifications
  • Proficient in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Access) and ERP/Purchasing systems
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written with customers and employees at all levels
